Let's just assume for a moment that the rumors of an Apple Tablet are true. A ginormous iPhone styled touchpad that can function as a computer, e-book reader, Skype phone, etc., would pretty much obliterate the Kindle, and put it out to pasture, right? Or would it?
Apple has a long history of releasing great gadgets, but at a much higher price than competing products, which leaves a lot of would-be Apple lovers out in the cold. If you're in the market (or quietly looking) for an e-book reader, would you rather drop some cash on the Amazon Kindle (which is a great reader on its own) or hold out for a possible Apple Tablet?

i've been considering a kindle for a while now, but i would much rather go for a tablet from apple since it would not only be able to have books but also use it as a much smaller, portable computer!
it would be nice to be able to download the books off amazon though
1the tablet from apple would be nice, and I am sure I would enjoy a Kindle also!
2That apple tablet looks scary. I know that's just a fake picture, but still. Scary.
3I agree with bethinabox. The Apple tablet "pic" looks bad. Based on aesthetics, it would be the Kindle 2 hands down for me.
4I purchased a Kindle 2 and returned it after a couple of weeks. Nice device, but the screen on my iPhone (with a back light) was much easier to read (although too small). I will be first in line for a Apple Tablet. A Kindle is a passive - read only device...to limiting in the world of real time internet. Come on Apple...I'm ready for a new slick device that will blow away netbooks and the Kindle.
5I am a tabletPC user. I can't wait for an Apple Tablet. I was wondering when they were going to release one.
6If Apple sees this photo, I think they're going to quash the whole idea of an Apple tablet altogether. And asking whether we would go for a Kindle or Apple tablet is like asking whether I want oranges or pianos for dinner.
7that looks amazing!
8I love my kindle 2 (just got it two weeks ago). I just saw the pics of the new kindle dx and I think I am going to stick with the kindle 2. I like the portability of it. I wanted something that I could carry in my purse without too much added size.
The Tablet and the DX are both too large for my tastes and my needs. And the iphone just does not cut it for book reading.
I have to say that I love how consumer products are becoming much more diverse so that everyone can find the exact product that they need without much sacrifice!
9That photo is ridiculous!
The textbook capability of the new Kindle I think it great, and a great competition to the college-driven Apple market. If they can do that, everyone will have/want a Kindle DX.
10I've been using the Kindle app for my iPhone and have read nearly 6 books on it in the last month. I'm ready to get a Kindle 2 so I can do some of this reading on a bigger screen. Throwing this fake tablet picture out there puts a serious crimp in my plans. I've lived through these rumors before though. The rumors of an Apple Phone strung me along for over three years. I just don't want to wait that long again. If they were going to announce a tablet soon it would probably be at WWDC next month. I can wait that long but not much more.
11The Kindle is more portable. Kindle or an actual book.
12This is an interesting post to look back on considering all the latest polls about the iPad show your readers aren't so impressed by it.
