Apple Surprises Us With a Third-Generation iPod Shuffle

Apple blindsided us this morning with the announcement of an all-new iPod Shuffle, which is about half the size of the previous model. With a new voiceover feature that tells you what song is playing, controls now located on the earphone cord, and a built-in stainless steel clip for wearing on your clothes, the new Shuffle is much sleeker and more user friendly. Now available in silver or black in 4GB versions (which will hold about 1,000 songs) for $80.

allinavhcnerf, I hate so say anything, but for some reason I am incredibly irritated. ipods will never be sleek? Show me an mp3 player that looks nicer and is easier to use. When it comes to being sleek, Apple is the king. It seems that you don't even know the meaning of the word. When concerning an object: having an elegant, streamlined shape or design.

Oh! I looked over here yesterday to see if there was a post about this, I think I just missed it since I remember seeing that fedex post. Anyways, I think it's so cool! I have the previous generation (and they are still selling those for those who prefer) but when that breaks or I inevitably lose it I will get this one. Mellie, I would look at this website for an idea of when new iPods will come out: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ They do update them every 6-8 months, which can be frustrating, but then again I'd rather they not hold back new technology on us.

I love me all things Apple, however I'm not entirely sold on this product yet. I think my big turn off is the color, or lack of color selection.

Yes, you have to use their earbuds - unfortunately. But I'm sure there will be third party earphones that you can use as well (they have to have the controls on them). So basically if they break, you can't use your shuffle until you have the proper headphones.

I wonder if someone will come with a third party controls for this. I just can't do their normal earbuds as they KILL my ears.

Hmm... I am not a fan of apple... I am not a fan of macs... and I am especially not a fan of Ipods.... However... 4 gigs... in that super tiny thing... I am pondering the idea of snagging one later on... just to use in my car! I have the aux jack in my stereo... and to have 4 gigs... and just plug it in would kinda be snazzy ... but then again, I can get an sd card music player/mp3 player and use that... or simply... just burn my mp3s on to cds and use that~ So I dunno.. interesting idea though. I hate the idea of controls via headset. Granted it makes the device smaller.. but I am sorry... if something is smaller then a freaking key... thats a bit too tiny imo.

very sleek, but geez every time a new iPod comes out not long after comes a newer version. Makes me not want to purchase one thinking that the better one won't be long after and the cycle keeps going!!!

I'm torn. This is very sleek but I like the colors on the old shuffle. Also, if the controls are on the headphones, what happens if the headphones break? Can you only replace them with apple ones?
