Would You Keep Using Netflix If It Was Owned by Amazon?

I know it's kind of silly, but I've always been proud to be a Netflix subscriber, because I felt like I was supporting a local company. The San Francisco-based company has gotten huge, but its roots are in the Bay Area, where I am — and I like to think of it as a hometown company, a local affair that triumphed over the Goliath of BlockBuster.

That little local-biz-makes-good fantasy could be coming to a close, though, as rumors are swirling that Amazon could be taking over the mailed movie service.

The speculation — which is not new, an Amazon acquisition was rumored a couple of years ago — came about because Netflix's stock had gotten a little push.

What does this mean for us customers if it's true? It could mean that nothing changes, and it could mean that everything changes; we can't know.

What we do know is that my sweet little notion of supporting a local company would be done for. Would that make me stop using Netflix? Probably not. Would Amazon owning Netflix affect the way you felt about it?

i live in seattle and amazon is a hometown company for us. i would definitely keep supporting it. and i used blockbuster instead of netflix because i already had an account.

As long as the quality of service stays high, I'll stick with them. I've never had a problem with Netflix in 6 years, they are great and I would hope Amazon would uphold that standard (I've never had a problem with Amazon either, so I'm not worried). Netflix ships fast (as Amazon always has too) and I love, love that I can stream to my HD Tivo (and the pic quality is great!). We turn DVD's around kinda slowly (with 2-at-a-time subscription) but since getting the new Tivo, we are getting more than our money's worth out of our subscription.

I have always been and plan to remain a Netflix subscriber, whether they're owned by Amazon or not. However, if you're looking for a company that doesn't feel so "big", check out GreenCine. They offer the same services as Netflix, with a much greater selection of independent and foreign films.

If the service stays the same or improves, I am ok with it. I like both Amazon & Netflix so now I would just like them together.

actually, i saw an article on AllThingsDigital about this. except the writer noted that Microsoft is a much better guess as to who will buy Netflix, since Microsoft already has the deal with the XBOX Live/Netflix and Microsoft is looking to broaden their reach in entertainment.

I think I would be col with it, But if any service was limited, cut, or exploited for unmotivated fee's I'd imagine I'd and any other netflix fanatics would cut back on services and our insane amount of "word of mouth" / praise we give to friends and family about all the benefit's of using Netflix.. I have always loved all the different features Netflix offers DISC mailers, XBOX / hardware streaming, and PC (mac) streaming. I do wish netflix (would cross regions codes), gamefly (international) and international amazon would merge. imagine access to all the cool international titles and movies.

I would love it! I love Amazon! Now, if Microsoft bought Netflix, I would probably cancel my membership. EvilDorkGirl: I have never used Netflix on an xBox but I know that I have access to the Instant Watch HD tv shows and movies via my Roku player that are excellent quality. My Roku can also play the Amazon movies but I haven't paid for one yet.

I'm a Netflix subscriber, and our new TV has a feature where you can get on demand movies from Amazon. The streaming Amazon movies are MUCH higher quality than Netflix on XBOX Live, and they have a better selection of movies. I think it could be a great thing.
