Wait, Amazon Prime Increased Its Price to How Much?

Mar 13 2014 - 11:20am

Amazon Prime membership will now cost you the same as a wedding dress [1].

The company announced that it's raising the cost of membership by $20 from $79 to $99, citing an increase in fuel and transportation costs [2]. In case you need a refresher, Prime is a yearly subscription service [3] with perks like free two-day shipping on certain purchases, the chance to borrow one ebook every month from a Kindle library, and free streaming services through Amazon Instant Video. (The cost for the Amazon Student version will also increase to $49.)

The price hike starts March 20 for new subscribers and on April 17 for existing members who renew their subscription after that date.

Like you'd expect, the Internet is torn, some still willing to pay for the service and others — especially those who don't use it often — feeling the sting.

Amazon is increasing their Prime fee but I still think it's totally worth it. They have awesome streaming choices & I <3 2 day shipping.

#AmazonPrime [6] isn't worth $99, sure 2 day free shipping is nice, but only for certain things. Your movies are lame, I cant even watch Jaws

Amazon Prime's only going up $20. I can live with that. pic.twitter.com/XNcJUHMcnN [8]

Pretty lame that Amazon is increasing the cost of Prime significantly without adding any additional value to the product whatsoever.
