Have you ever tried Googling yourself to see what results show up? Were you surprised or shocked at what showed up? Unfortunately when it comes to the internet, we can run but it is ridiculously hard to hide. I'm sure if Miss New Jersey would have known the consequences of posting racy pics on her private Facebook account, she would have thought twice about doing so even though the pictures are quite harmless (well maybe painful for the guy below)!

If you happened to be hot and bothered about what results pop up when you search yourself on Google (I won't even ask) Lifehacker has thankfully found a site which will give you tips to help reclaim your name online, making it more difficult for prospective employers or dates to dig up dirt on you!

When will people learn that you shouldn't post anything on the internet that you don't want anyone else to see???
1I've got a clean google record
Never use your real name on the interwebnet
2I always try to check and see if my personal blog shows up, I try my best to prevent that
3Yeah, just don't use your real name when you sign up for anything.
4Added to my favorites. Google my name and I come up in the first page. My name isn't a secret on the internets anyway.
5where I went to high school popped up and a petition I signed.. LOL!! that is all
6I basically screwed myself over by blogging my personal life back in high school. Regardless of how hard I try to cover up my past (and really, i'm not too ashamed of it, i just don't need employers or professional contacts to read my angsty bad teen poetry) it'll always be there, right up top in Google. It's mildly upsetting, especially since my name has about 11 or so pages straight of stuff, yet what shows up first? Things I posted, like, six years ago. Oh well, so goes my Internet life.
7sugardoll - Have you tried deleting those old blog posts? I kept a couple of blogs in high school as well and it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I figured out how to go back and delete them. Now I'm much more careful about how I do things online. I always use a different username on various forums and I keep different Photobucket accounts for whatever sites I need to post pictures to.
8nothing shows up about me
9My work blog shows up, as well as the professional stuff I do online, so yay for me.
10There are a couple of relatively historically well-known people with my name, so googling my name always turns up pages and pages of their results. Even if there were anything that referred to me, it's pushed waaaayyyy back there and would be pretty hard to find.
That said, all my personal sites are on private.
