I hardly ever pay attention when my cell phone carrier increases the fee for sending text messages—Five cents, ten cents, it usually all looks the same.
However, I'm finally starting to take notice because more and more phone carriers are hiking up their prices. According to CNN Money, T-Mobile has already increased their rates from 10 cents to 15 cents, and Sprint started charging 20 cents per message in October.
Verizon is the most recent carrier to join the group, as they will raise the price of text messages by five cents starting March 2nd.
Considering text messaging is said to account for about forty-five percent of all data revenue, it's no surprise that carrier companies are attempting to cash-in on the millions of texts sent each year. How do you feel about this? Would you switch phone carriers if they raised the fees?

1I have an unlimited data plan, so it takes care of more text messages than I can send/receive. Plus internet, email, etc...
2I thought we were all geeks in here? Who is still paying per message these days?
Does this also affect unlimited plans? would the base price of having that go up?
3I barely text now as it is. As long as I have a phone with email capabilities then I have no need. I have friends that text a ton and this will probably cause them to switch if they do not have the unlimited plan.
4No, I have a great plan with Centennial... they had a special $5 for unlimited texting to anyone anywhere two years ago and I got to keep that special rate while they raised their unlimited messaging to $15. One heck of a deal for me!
5I have a plan that includes text and pic messages, but I rarely use texting... My sister, however, got 3000 last month so if they change the plan, she may have to switch
6I've been with T-Mobile for over 10 years - the SIM card I just replaced still said 'Voicestream' on it!
But I'm planning to switch when my contract is up. I just don't like that I can't use my phone in my room. I'm looking at either Verizon or AT&T
7It bugs me that they are still charging for texting, much less increasing their prices! On my AT&T iPhone plan (which should cover all that in their data plan) they charge an additional $15/month for 1500 texts or $20/month for unlimited. It's crazy. But, of course, I pay it because I do a LOT of texting.
8Not unless another service carried the iPhone. I don't do a lot of texting, though. I get 200 with my unlimited data plan and after that it's about $.25 a text message. I go over sometimes but that's because I had myspace set up to text me when people left comments.

13With Helio's "all in" package, I get unlimited text messaging, so this isn't a concern for me.
14I subscribe to Cingualr/AT&T . They have a package of of 200 local text messages for $4.99. International text messages are not included but each is $.20. I am very satisfied with the deal. I couldn't even use up all the text messages. I just call. Text messaging is more time consuming for me.
15I just pay for unlimited...so I don't worry about it.

17No I would not switch companies. I really like the company that I am with and I don't really text that mcuh. I like to talk not text.

22I'm so sick of text messaging. I hardly ever use it, and people send me text messages ALL THE TIME and then I have to pay for them, even though I didn't want the message in the first place. I don't want to cancel text message service altogether because occasionally if I'm stuck late in a meeting or my fiance is stuck late in the hospital we'll text each other in situations where it is not appropriate to make a phone call, but no matter how many times I ask my friends to stop texting me, they continue to do so over stupid things. Last month, my text message bill was $8.20, and only $0.20 were worthwhile. I don't know how to drill it into my friends that I want them to STOP TEXTING ME. I wonder if I should just deliver them a bill at the end of each month for their fee, haha.

24I pay $10 a month for unlimited text messaging... it doesn't get much better than that!
