We've all seen engravings on iPods and laptops, but I don't think I've seen them look quite so tattoo-like as I did at ETCHamac's booth at Macworld. ETCHamac does custom engraving exclusively for Apple products (which you can now purchase new from their website and choose a design), and is newly engraving iPhones as well. I would definitely have a hard time choosing a design to tattoo on my body, but maybe it could be a low-commitment substitute to put it on my laptop instead?! Then again, Apple's products are so well-designed that I would have a hard time messing up their pristine surfaces. Have any of you engraved your gadgets, or would you?

i might, if it was near enough and i designed it
1I personally wouldn't but I think it something that is cool if done right.
2I don't think I could commit to something enough to get it engraved on my computer.
3Haha I would!
4Make it more personal and stand out
Most likely, especially if I had the white Mac. I have the black but there are so many white ones in my law classes I'd tattoo mine to stand out.
5I have a Zune 80 Originals the the back etched.
6I might
7Why???
8I think it's pretty cool.
9it voids the warranty, so no.
10Why not?
11Ew, definitely not. I like my minimalist look.
12It makes it more personal and cute!
13I love the idea. I had my kids names put on the backs of their Ipods. I know it won't keep them from getting stolen, but hey...
14I enjoy having technical items personalized. I feel like it makes them less mainstream and more mine.
15Never!
I like my macbook the way it is: shiny, silver, clean.
16However- what if, then, at a certain point, you don't like what is on your computer/ipod anymore?
my husband and i bought matching first generation ipods (seems like forever ago) and had them engraved at things remembered. the lady was totally freaked out, but my husb just popped the silver covers off, and she ran them through the laser with our ipods names, and a little swirly flower thing for mine. most people we knew had never even seen an ipod, much less a customized one. i think it was a great idea and will be getting my iphone engraved too.
17ps- i've loved the custom painted ibook covers since the first time i saw them! you have to take apart your ibook and remove the white paint from the inside so the design can show up, but i think it's worth it! i can't find the japanese site where i first saw them, but this guy put a scanned image inside his and it looks great.

18I love those guys, they did a lid for me on a PowerBook. I had a big etched star and they made my Apple pink!
