Not for me... I'm definitely a loyal Netflix user.

I don't really bother with renting movies. I just don't have the time to sit and watch a full-length movie... I'd rather be out doing something active with my rare free time.

I use the RedBox machines in grocery stores for new releases. $1 a day, as cheap as it gets aside from Netflix. Not many people use them either, so the new releases are always in stock.

I also hit the library for classics and various TV series (unbelievably they carry stuff like 'Oz'). Can you say FREE!?!

For the obscure stuff, I hit a local chain who frequently does 2 for Tuesdays/Wednesdays. 2 for $2.50.

I used to do Netflix but it would stress me out because I always wanted to make sure I got my money's worth.

Outside the US, NetFlix-like services exist but are too expensive. I'm not going to shell out for an Apple TV, but renting and watching directly on my computer (or my computer hooked up to my TV) makes a *huge* amount of sense to me. I'll probably go to the video store much less when iTunes Rentals finally get to Canada. They need to have a decent selection of foreign films and art films to keep me interested though.

I love Netflix. If the rental price for Apple movies came down a tad, I'd be interested. Until then I'll keep mailing those red envelopes!

The rental prices are way too high and their choice of content just stinks. Still Blockbuster for me.

I don't think I'll be renting any movies from iTunes. First of all, I have an account with Blockbuster that I'm perfectly happy with. I like the way they work things.

Secondly, I don't like that you don't have the option to rent every movie iTunes has to offer. I don't like that you have to wait thirty days until after its released on DVD to rent it, and I DON'T like that you only have 24 hours to watch it.

All of that is my understanding. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But yeah. Blockbuster is the way I'm going.

No, way too expensive, and I like how Blockbuster lets me keep them until I can actually find them around the house again, and they still aren't late.

I rarely rent movies. but this week I decided to take advantage of Netflix's free two week trial. If I do rent movies, it's usually from the library. If I like the whole renting thing, I'll continue with Netflix but Apple TV is way too expensive for me. I don't know why I should be paying $229 for a box to watch movies. Isn't that the DVD player's job?!

i get movies from blockbuster and return them at the store for new ones, but we are switching to netflix because blockbuster upped our price by 2 bucks.

I love the blockbuster plan, with being able to also switch the movies you get in the mail in store, instead of mailing it and waiting for the new one. Blockbuster scans in your return, rents you a movie in store, and ships out your next selection also. You basically never have to wait for a movie. They also email you free movie coupons once a month, and at Christmas they gave us a free rental too.

I think blockbuster was definitely the hardest competition out there, but since they've been upping their fees, I think netflix will be happy.

I wish the apple tv had dvr capabilities, but then apple would lose the money they make selling tv shows over itunes.

Where I live, the only possibility is blockbuster, netflixwateveritis does not exist.
Therefore, Apple tv with film rentals would be nice, very nice. I'd love to have one.

Apple TV isn't necessary if you only want to use occasionally.

My BF bought me an "Apple Composite AV Cable" for my birthday. Basically one end plugs to my ipod the other to my TV. I take shows, movies, videos, podcasts, etc and put them on my ipod nano (vid) and walk 3 feet to the television, plug in, and play!

It's like $50 bucks. Looks awesome.

I'm keeping Netflix but with my handy-dandy cable a 3 buck movie on occasion would rock. Especially when I forget to mail my Netflix on time.

We have a Mac Mini hooked up to 1Tb of RAID. We don't need an ATV or the movie rentals.

It's not aimed at us though.

Yes, once there is a hack that allows you to view NetFlix's unlimited streaming on your TV through the AppleTV.
This just makes my NetFlix more convenient.
They will NOT make much money on their movie rentals.

i think that ATV is hoping that the all APPLE fad will help this one - but as much as i like to splurge on anything apple, i'm going to have to stick with my netflix. that's just too much money

Netflix has pros and cons - it's great to have movies on hand but sometimes you're not in the mood to watch what you have. I know I don't watch enough movies a month to really get my money's worth. But there are hardly any video stores in my neighborhood any more. Our local Blockbuster shut down. We have one independent video store but they are out of the way, expensive, small selection, and very rude.

selenasuha, that's a good tip about the cable. Unfortunately my i-pod is so old (and still going!) that it doesn't play video. I'd rather hold out a few more years and possibly get an i-phone than upgrade my i-pod now.

Lol, no WAY. I already hate paying so much to see movies in the theater, but at least you get to go out and you have the huge screen and awesome sound system and great popcorn and stuff. I only rent DVDs when I can't find them on the web, which is rare.

I prefer the way I currently rent. It's super-cheap. We signed up for a Redbox promo a while ago that gets us a free movie every Monday. We also use Blockbuster Online to rent series and older movies. You can return them to the store and you also earn free movies (from the store) regularly. I'm not a big film buff, so it's almost TOO MUCH for me (I even forget to get my free movies many times), but it's there when I want it. I use OnDemand ordering also. An Apple TV would be serious overkill unless it offers something else.

I will stick with Netflix, especially since they just announced unlimited viewing from your computer- as many movies as you want to download free with your normal subscription. All I need to do is figure out how to stream it through my TV now...

A reasonable idea, but becomes useless when the selection is weak, they restrict HD to the Apple TV only instead of other models like the mini, and they expire via DRM quickly.

Most of this is the fault of the movie studios who likely will find themselves in the same situation as the music labels in a few years. Why they don't understand this is beyond me.

I'm happy with my Netflix now and my Tivo so why would I purchase another box for over $200 and then rent $3 to $5 for each rental. Netflix sounds reasonable.

We usually wait for new premieres on Saturday night or we just buy the DVD the week it comes out.

why pay for both the ATV and the movie when we all have dvd players either in our laptops or under our tv's. I would rather go to a little red box dvd rental box and pay 1$ and then go take my extra $ and buy some snacks lol
