When the "There's something in the air" posters went up this past weekend, I didn't think that Apple would literally be suspending notebooks from the ceiling of the Moscone Center! Appropriately named the MacBook Air for weighing in at only three pounds, this laptop is super-thin and extremely portable. Here are some more up close and personal shots of it "hanging out," so to speak, at Macworld today.

it doesn't have a cd drive through... ugh...
1i dunno.this doesn't seem like a great product the more and more i look into it.
and no removable battery. my macbook battery died, my boyfriend's exploded..... i want that baby to be able to be taken out easily and replace easily, instead of something like the ipod where it's exspensive to do that.
SO excited about this, the one thing that's been holding me back from buying a macbook was the weight! Sign me up!
2is that REALLY necessary for most people?
3i feel like mac is trying too hard these days to be ahead in technology.
So...I wrote a blog about this new laptop. You could buy it, or you could get a 4lb Vaio with about 4x the HD space and twice the RAM. I can't stand Apple.

4I love Apple! my macbook rocks! i might get one of these when my macbook gets a lil older!
5this is a big step in laptops
6It's so pretty...if only it had a cd drive.
7I used to think that my old MacBook was light, but this is revolutionary!
I so want an Apple computer; I have a Compaq w/ windows software and it's annoying. Apple is the future and anyone that disagrees with how advanced Apple technology has become are not aware of how brilliant Steve Jobs and his company are. Windows may have most of the market (with computers) however that will change once people realize that Apple is faster, has less kinks, rarely does a virus get through the system and the software is beyond anything Gates could create. I'm pretty sure the new laptop has a cd drive if you look very closely at the right-hand side of the laptop; there appears to be a cd slot.
8love that but it's too expensive for its functions. Still, would love to have one though...
9It doesn't have a CD slot but theere is an external SuperDrive for $99.00. Plus you have the new time capsule product that they just announced today for wireless burning and for backing up your data. The battery is removable but apple has to remove it and the battery cost $129 with free installation.
10I want this laptop! The prices are pretty high though.. well even higher than the other ones haha.
11I am drooling over this!! My husband brought up the CD issue today but then I politely reminded him that the last time I used a CD was about two years ago. Cd's are the floppy disk of the future and will be non existant one day. I think it will be all memory sticks in the future. Apple is on the right track.
12I really don't think the price is all that bad. I was researching the very portable 11" Sony Vaio before this came out and the nicely equipped ones are $3,000.00 even up to $4,000.00 the cheaper ones by the time you put some useful memory and other options on it it's WAY more expensive than this. Also Macs are known to startup much faster than PC's. My PC is so freaking slow I can turn it on go make a sandwich come back and it's still not ready, LOL.
13i just finished watching the macworld video. oooh...love the new macbook air! i don't use the cd slot on my macbook much so i doubt i'd miss it. i love that it is so thin and light - would be so easy to take to school everyday. i think the price is great too. i don't see any validation for comparing this product to a crappy vaio. give me a break. i'll take a mac, any mac, any day. i love that they went back to the black keyboard. so classy.
14there's only one port on the side, though.....that and the lack of CD drive....i dunno it hurts but i may have to pass.
15I run my own design company and everything is done through and on Macs.. We both have a BigMac each and then a Macbook to take around with us.. All our file sharing is already done wirelessly and the use of wireless features on this new macbook is amazing..
16Like always Mac have got the design just right - it really is beautiful and making my white macbook look chunky and old... - and are forcing/inspiring the customer to embrace the new technologies the world has to offer. Yes it is expensive but you get so much out of it.. The lack of a cd drive is a bit daunting for someone wanting a laptop as their main computer but when you can get an external one for $99 the problem is once again solved.
It;s pretty cool. The lack of cd drive might bother me though.
17The lack of cd drive (externals are so dumb, what a cop out), only 1 usb, no memory card slots, and Im sure if I drop kick it, it won't hold up like a IBM thinkpad would.
18If money was not an option for me and I traveled a whole bunch, then this computer would be perfect. But the fact that it is pretty slow, barely has a hard drive, no ports, no CD/DVD drive I just can't fathom purchasing it. I'm a pretty big fan of Apple and have been using their products since grade school, but I think this machine is geared to a very specific (and small) target market. I was desperately hoping for a slim MacBookPro this year, and I was very disappointed when it never showed up on macrumors.com. I think that Apple would have been much better off resizing the current MacBook and MacBook Pro lines.
19I want it.
20I used to have a love affair with Sony. I got a Vaio laptop before I entered grad school. It was TINY (SR series w/ external drives only). Oh, how I loved it... until it died a very clichéd death as I was working on my final paper (I stepped away to talk on the phone and came back and it was off for good.) I brought it to Sony Style, they said I'd have to pay, send it away, and lose everything – I went and got the data pulled and burned and immediately bought a PowerBook to finish out the semester. I treated that Vaio sooo well and it lasted barely over a year – compared to my first PowerBook that lasted all through college and beyond (even when my roommate dropped it down the stairs). I'm not totally sold on the MacBook Air, but I'd take an Apple product over a Sony any day.
21K8, i forgive you for this. But, this laptop doesn't even have a dvd burner, 1 usb, 80GB? Who are they trying to kid here. Style does not take place over substance, not for my money. Nope. HP, you know i love you, right?
22great convert story PetSugar!
