Macworld 2008: The World's Thinnest Notebook Is Here!
The wait is over as
Steve Jobs has just confirmed the rumors during his keynote speech at
Macworld—The MacBook Air is here! The super-thin silver device comes with an LED backlit display, a 13.3-inch widescreen display, a built-in iSight camera, a full-sized keyboard, and a trackpack that supports multi-touch gesture support. The best part: The MacBook Air has an aluminum case, a mercury-free and arsenic-free glass display, and the circuit boards are BFR free and PVC free—making it environmentally friendly! Thanks to
Gizmodo and their minute-to-minute reporting from the keynote, we were able to learn about the MacBook Air and more! Check out the slideshow to see what else Apple announced!

2Has apple admitted finally that their plastic cases are prone to breakage? Maybe they'd like to rethink their response to my customer service nightmare. Also cracked screens--maybe they've finally fixed THAT problem too?
3not for that much. Ill stick to the HUGE macbooks.
4So no news on a 2nd Gen iPhone. POO.
5Love. Want. Need.
6i just watched the guided tour. that thing is so ballin
7eek! wow! okay... i stille love my mac book.
8and i KIND of wish apple would color their laptops in the colors they have for the ipod nanos... i'd kill for a green laptop.
i have a 12 in powerbook from 3 years ago that still runs perfectly thank you very much. but yes, that is pretty bangin.
9gimme.
10it's a good thing it easily fits in an envelope, that will make sending it back to apple in a year to replace the battery much easier!
11I'm kind of mad about this, actually. I have a 12" Powerbook that's going on four years old, and I was hoping Apple would introduce a new small computer so I could upgrade. But I want my computer to have a bigger hard drive than my iPod! It is beautiful, though.
12It's gorgeous but sheeesh almost $2000!
13Oh, some day..
14Also, I just watched a little more about it. There isn't an optical drive, so you can't watch dvd's or install any programs that come from disc. I know that some times CD drivers are obsolete, but if I was to install Windows, how would I do that, along with larger programs that only come in disc format. I do understand that there is an external, but externals were so 5 years ago! Ill be buying the original macbook this February.
15Mmm, SSD!
16I can't wait to lust over this machine at the apple store, but it is too bare bones to switch from my G4. I already tried a Macbook and had keyboard/OS (Leopard) issues... so, still waiting Steve.
We're disappointed here. Were hoping for more G's on the touch .... Still waiting to buy for the increase.....
17love macs, but this is a bit over the top for me. (and too pricey!)
18Not impressed! Do not want!
The only thing thats remotely cool is the multi-touch trackpad. The footprint is the SAME as my MacBook, why would I pay x3 price for something I already have?
Also - it's BIG... did you see the product shots of it on top of a 15" MacBook Pro? It's HUGE!
SSD is also not worth paying that much for. I'll wait for the price drops and maybe a new line of notebooks next year... all with multi-touch trackpads!
19Where are y'all seeing the price?
20On the er... Apple website?
21Apple is for douchebaqs... in fact, steve handjobs markets to douchebags who care more about the color of their laptop than the functionality.
22If only it weren't a MAC....
23i'd probably accidentally snap it in half if i got mad at it
24It's so pretty. And I'm in love with the touch pad. But three grand? That's a little excessive for something I just want because it's pretty. I am also spoiled by my large MacBook Pro and my large desktop monitor. I don't think I could deal with an itty bitty monitor like that. But...it's so pretty.
25and they think that size doesn't matter ha!
26steve handjobs, LOL
so good
27I think it's amazing. I wouldn't run out to buy one if I wasn't in the market for a new computer, but as I am currently using a Tangent (yeah, no one's heard of it) from 2001, I am long overdue for an upgrade. And this just moved to the top of my list! I'm not too worried about installing CD's, etc., because it comes with software that you can install on another computer (Mac or PC) and you can "borrow" that computer's optical drive. And yeah, it's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for!
28This machine isn't for the casual user. It is for users that are constantly on the go and are willing to compromise speed, storage and on board optical for something very light and portable . I personally love it but unfortunately I'm not the target so I'll never own one
I would love
it for traveling but I'm not in a place yet where I can have extra computers just to travel with.. someday, someday...
