Every New Year, I usually make a point to send all my friends a "Happy New Year" text message. Maybe I was having too much fun when the clock struck 12 because I completely forgot to get my phone out and send a single text message. My friend on the other hand, woke up the next morning to realize that she had sent out a mass text to hundreds of her friends. I'm sure she'll be overjoyed when her phone bill arrives at the end of this month!
According to Valleywag, millions of text messages were sent simultaneously at midnight on New Year's. Many arrived, many didn't, and many were delayed. I'm curious to know whether or not you are a New Year's texter? . . . Scroll down to leave your answer!

AND at least five phone calls. Apparently I left some obnoxious voice mails like, "omg i think you're going to be the first one married!" My very single friend was not very happy about that obnoxious one...
1No I didn't. I was too busy drinking wine and playing a game with friends, we totally missed when the clock struck midnight!
2I did... I send out a text message every holiday...
3my friends were all with me.
4i hate texts from people that say that, unless they are a close friend. and since all my close friends were with me, i had no reason to do that.
i only send it to the people i actually talk to on my phone list, but it was so difficult during new years because the networks were so busy.
5Ugh, I HATE random holiday text messages. It's one thing if you actually have something to say, but to just wish a generic holiday message to me and 70 of your other nearest and dearest isn't worth wasting my 15 cents, especially when I get 19 of the exact same "Happy New Year!" texts immediately following.
6NO I didn't send a single New Yr's text and I wish people wouldn't send me any either!! Gee whiz my phone was on silent Christmas Eve, Christmas, new year's eve AND new year's day!!!
7yes I did...but not at exactly at 12:00 midnight. I sent text messages about 5 to 4 hrs before the New Year. And I sent text New year messages 13 hrs earlier to friends and family in the Far East (Asia) because they have their New Year hours before the US celebrates its New Year
8I sent out only one to my ex, but I'm not sure if he got it or ignored mine. But I did get one from my boyfriend at exactly 12.
9No. I don't use a cell phone.
10Yes I did! At like 4:30 in the morning when I remembered!!!
11I even staggered my text message deliveries to accommodate my friends in different time zones.
12I sent one out for New Year but not for Christmas. I'm not religious so why would I?
13I sent out a personal message though to each person. I'm sick of the mass text messages; they're retarded.
Yup, I did
14I sent a few, mainly in response to ones i got.
15Hundreds, seriously? That means over 200 people are in her phone. Who knows that many people well enough to put them in their phone? Geez!
I don't particularly care for generic mass-messages either. I get unlimited text messages, but I just think they're annoying.
16I got a few but didn't return the favor. I was trying to sleep.
17Just one from my old best friend. It made me smile. NYE texts from anyone else would've irritated me.
18No, I did not send any out. I called the most important people that were not with me. Then I personal messages to each dear friend on Facebook. I received replies to almost all of them....some people don't check it every day and one guy is bogged down in work near the Arctic.
19Then I *posted* personal messages....gah..I hate forgetting key words. ^^
20had sent via Y!Msgr SMS texts, but realized there's an extra step for the recipient to authorize/ok a text sent to their phone. weaksauce!
I think friends tried to send 'round 12a, but I got em way late, couple of hours later. Good thing I assigned a mild alert tone for incoming msgs...
21I think holiday texts are obnoxious. It's like "Oh, I can't bother to call you and wish you a happy holiday."
22Really, I think getting text messages from people borders on rude, anyway.
It's kind of a shame that so many people are irritated by holiday texts.
At least these people thought enough of you to send you one; they could've just as easily deleted your number.
I have unlimited texts on my plan so I guess I can't "share the pain" of having to pay for them later.
I only give my number to people I want to have it so it doesn't faze me to get random messages from people I haven't talked to in a few months.
My friends know where I stand; no, I didn't send out any NYE texts..
23NO I didn't because I didn't
that's all.
24Noooo - too expensive. Also, bit silly to send a random text to people you aren't really close to...
25I sent "¡Dos mil ocho!" to about 6 people.
26i dont have anyone in my addressbook other than my sisters and parents and boyfriend, so i didnt send, i saw them all
27i had more than 100 people in my phone that i knew them well all, but i lost their phone numbers last month when my phone fall in water
28I didn't get my texts until 4pm that day.
29I surely did... I didn't do it at the stroke of twelve, but I sent a group text to my friends on New Year's Day in between layovers for my flight.
30I usually do but not this year (I was too wasted lol)
31of course i did!
32and i called all my close friends as welL!
i cant start the new year off without wishing my friends a HAPPY one!
I've send New Year (and Xmas) text message at midnight but only to my closest friends!
33for other people, I've send an ecard (or a real one) few days after!
I received one from a friend in a very different time zone - it woke me up!
34We live in Easter timezone, but were in Pacific for New Year's. I sent "Happy 9 o'clock!" text messages to my friends who texted me at midnight Eastern.
35Of course! I received a lot from my friends at exactly midnight. I rarely send out texts but since it was New Year's, why not? I kind of sent mine out a couple of hours late because I was too busy partying.. haha oops!
36Yup Yup ! I'm not really a 'phone' person but I do love to text !
