I haven't purchased a desktop in the past ten years. Considering how much I love to travel and the type of work I do I can't imagine having to sit in the same place every time I use the computer. Still, I completely understand that some people need the added memory and "power" of a desktop. That being said, the popularity of wireless Internet, docking stations and affordable laptops have made this a very portable world. Think I'm kidding? According to a recent Los Angeles Times article, "In the contest between PCs and laptops, an open-and-shut case," last year, for the first time, American consumers bought more of them than desktops. Sixteen of the twenty bestselling PCs on Amazon.com this holiday season were laptops. So where do you sit?

I have an icky PC desktop at work and my lovely macbook at home.
1Since I have to provide my own computer for work, obviously I just have one laptop that I transport back and forth. I am sure I will always have my own laptop for portability reasons, but once I settle down in one city and have a real home, I'm sure I'll keep a desktop as well just for ease of use and to give my laptop a break now and then.
2I use both since I travel so frequently but I'm starting to prefer my desktop.
3I travel a lot myself, but I'm not a laptop fan.
I love my Mac All-in-One. If I'm not at home, there's always my phone... or the nearest library. It's not that serious to me.
4laptop for both
5I prefer laptop. Convienance is key.
6I love my laptop, but I wish I had a desktop too.
7I've never had a laptop but for my next home computer may be getting one. But I will need a docking station and a huge monitor if I do get one, I can't be doing graphics on a little latop screen.
8I got a laptop when I was a student, and I don't know if I'll ever have a desktop again. Maybe when I have my own home, I will get a imac or something, but I love my MBP. The fact that I can surf the net from the kitchen or next to the fireplace is a luxury I only dreamed of.
9I have both at home. I can't recall the last time I turned on the desktop.
10If I didn't have constant access to my MacBook Pro....
11I have a desktop and a laptop, but I prefer to sit with my desktop because it's faster and it has more of memory
12thnx
Desktop at home, laptop in my dorm room, and a sexy little 2 pound Asus Eee PC for class!
13Laptop and docking station, please! [=
14I want portability but a big screen is a must for me.
At my house we have a desktop that we all use, I use it mostly for schoolwork sometimes. Then I have a MacBook Pro that I use the most. It is SOOOOO much faster than the desktop and love sitting on the couch and checking email.
15Mac Pro desktop at work and MacBook Pro laptop at home. Ah, this is the life. hehe
16I use a desktop at work and at home. I have had a backlit keyboard for many years (BLUE LED FTW) and find it hard to type on my laptop now after so long.
My laptop gets hooked to the 42inch TV for Stepmania and other random stuff.
17I have one but want both. Especially a laptop.
18Laptop all the way. I'm a student and I split my time between three different countries, so portability is essential! (And it has to be hauled from library to library as well!) I love my Mac
19i heart my acer!
20i have an iMac and i love how its not the traditional desktop, no mess and compact. how could i complain?
21i got my first laptop in sixth grade as a home computer from my parents (they each had work computers, i just kind of made my dad let me use his, and my mom got a deal on the ibook) and i have loved my little apples ever since.
22Both!
My laptop is convenient for writing and surfing the web. I take it to school, use it as a portable DVD player, and since it's a convertible tablet I draw on it too. It's convenient and compact.
My self-built desktop has a much better graphics card, two monitors, both bigger than the one on my laptop, a built-in TV, more space, and better speakers. Even though it's 5 years old, its processor is almost as powerful as the one in my one-year-old laptop, and it can play games the laptop can't handle. It's been upgraded several times, something I couldn't do with a laptop.
If I ever replace my desktop (it IS only 2.4 GHz, single core, and I could use a little more speed for 3D art) it will probably live on as a media server. It probably has another 5-10 years of useful life in it.
23I use my desktop for most things. It's absolutely necessary for storing my over 50GB of photos, and playing graphic-intensive games. I have a laptop also, and I use it when I want to surf the net elsewhere, like outside or in bed, and for when I stay at hotels.
24Love laptops
25I have a horrible desktop @ Work, a Great HP Media Center Desktop @ home and just got a replacement laptop(some 1 stole) for school.
So I guess every computer serves it purpose.

I have been using a desktop for years and was very lucky to get a laptop for Christmas. So I use both. :]
27i have a desktop only but i really want to get a laptop. still i love my desktop. does the job.
28In terms of convenience then laptop obviously (unless they've found a convenient way to lug a desktop around) but I'll always love that chunky computer. Only really made the switch to a notebook in the past two weeks so I'm still getting used to it, but either way the fatty and I have lots of memories together.
29i dont have laptop but my sister does so i use it sometimes and i can say i don't like laptop,
30Until a year or so ago I had always used a desktop mostly. I did have a laptop too but it was old and clunky.
Then my boyfriend introduced me to Apple notebooks and I've never gone back to a desktop since! I had a 12" Powerbook to start with and then I upgraded to a 13" Macbook. =)
Looking forward to the Apple subnotebook soon...
31I love my ThinkPad and once I'm going to buy a docking station for it;-) No more desktops. Maybe for my future kids....
32I have an HP laptop (work provided) and my boyfriend has a self built desktop. We need both. Mine for travel and his for space. In music alone we have like 100G, and he uses CAD/CAM programs that he needs the space and speed of a desktop. I like having both. I love my HP laptop, it's awesome
33we have both for our apartment- the laptop is nice because its portable. but the desk top gives you room to do research...plus i like regular keyboards alot better
34My almost new 4 year old Sony desktop has become a dust collector ever since my brother gave me his old laptop. It just crashed and I got to buy a brand new one with all the new bells and whistles and I will never go back to a desktop at home. I have no control at work but who doesn't love finding a recipe and propping up the notebook on the counter or being able to go ANYWHERE with your puter life. Technology rocks!
35laptop laptop! it got a 'personal' feeling with it.. haha
36I have a laptop and being a college student it is the better choice. Especially since i will be commuting into chicago next spring for college!!!
I've had Desktops before..i prefer laptops but Desktops are great too
37Back when I worked in advertising I had a desktop as you really need the extra horsepower if you are doing serious Photoshop and layout work. Once I started fixing computers I went to a laptop. I really don't think I could ever go back. The convenience of having all my stuff no matter where I am in the house. Having internet in bed, on the couch, in the kitchen or even out in the back yard is amazing. We have a Quad Mac Pro with a 30" display in the house and I rarely touch it. I love my MacBook Pro!!
38I agree that laptops are the best for a college student. I have only seen one student with a desktop computer in their dorm room since school started in September. It's nice to have the desktop computer when I come home though, because its much more comfortable to type. I love my laptop though, and I use it all the time lately, even at home. There are some really nice desktops coming out lately, like the One computer that's an all-in-one machine and its very sleek and well-designed. Both have their place, and I hope desktops don't disappear.
39I use a Mac at school and my Toshiba laptop at home. I seriously want a MacBook tho!
40Laptop for traveling, video watching, and regular internet surfing while the desktop is just for gaming and typing reports since it always stays at the desk.
41I have a desktop at work (well two hehe, they spolied me) and then I have a laptop at home and for school
42I love both in different ways. Don't make me choose.
43I love my laptop and I would never use anything else for day-to-day computer use. However I kind of want to get a desktop so I can play games..
44I have an ancient PC at work, an ancient G5 at home, and a PC laptop at home. I'll soon be adding a MacBook Pro to my home list.
I think using a desktop at work is nice, I definitely never find myself tempted to bring work home with me this way. However, I do stay late to finish things sometimes. I guess both desktops/laptops have pros and cons.
45I use my laptop as a desktop by using a replicator. That way I can use a full monitor, keyboard & mouse but can also pack just the laptop for travel.
46I think both are cool and obviously love the portable aspect of a Laptop but I have had too many bad experiences with laptops to choose it over a PC.... my desktop has been nothing but wonderful and hasn't crashed or given me the blue screen of death so I love it lol.
47I have a desktop at work and a desktop and laptop at home. I find myself using the laptop more because of the convenience.
48Desktop at work, desktop and laptop at home. I do like to sit on the couch with my laptop though!
49I use a desktop because of the memory!

50I use to have a laptop but I don't find it confortable so I gave it to my parents!
I only use it when I travel!
