If you are new to online shopping, or plan to make some last-minute online purchases before Christmas, here are some tips to help you along the way.
- Be sure to check out websites like Retail Me Not to see if you can get any discount codes for online orders.
- Make sure your computer is protected from hackers and potential viruses. Keep all your antivirus software up to date, make sure if you have a WiFi connection that it is password protected, and always download the latest security updates for your software and hard drive.
- Only make purchases from well-known, secure websites. If the site looks sketchy, it probably has sketchy people running it. Follow your gut intuition.
- Ensure your payment goes through a secure page.

I also look out for those seals most legit sites have, like the VeriSign seal with the red check mark. You always know you are safe when you see it
1I've been using Paypal's one-use credit card numbers this year. I've been shopping online for 8 years and I've never once had a problem, but with the Paypal disposable number I make sure it stays that way
2what gets me is when packages get lost.
3because it's just awkward. my boyfriend's parents hate buying online, and this year his mom bought his sister a bunch of stuff from the victoria's secret pink line and all the packages got lost. it's a bummer
ooo yes you have to be very careful...I do lots of mine through work because I know that this computer is stocked up on anti-spyware and super safe
4Thanks for the tips! I do most of my holiday shopping online b/c there are so many good deals! I just posted several online shopping codes (fashion related) in the Sweet Deals Suite Group here: http://teamsugar.com/group/53605/blog/871688
5These are great tips. Another good way to find gifts for everyone on your list is to check out ExpoTV’s Holiday Survival Guide (http://www.expotv.com/holiday).
6thanks for the tips!
7Thank goodness for online shopping! I have not set foot in a store for shopping (other than grocery shopping) - and I owe it all to online deals. I love being able to comparison shop on prices and to check out details on products before I buy.
Plus, I used to work retail, and I promise your credit card info (card number, expiration date, and your signature) is in a LOT more danger of being stolen when you hand it to some 16 year old kid and it is stored in an unlocked box in the back room for a few years, than when you type it into a secured website.
