A recent study proved the heat generated from laptops can cause fertility problems in men, not to mention the potential to burn your legs and cause damage to your computer. So why does your laptop heat up so fast? Its small size means a small cooling system, and when you place it on fibrous material, it gets harder and harder for it to breathe and cool.
Geek tip: If you must work in bed, get an inexpensive portable laptop desk, $29, or a simple bed tray. It will promote better posture and the laptop’s vents will remain unblocked. If your laptop heats up a little too much, get it checked out.

I have a Dell and I had to get a new battery from them after their recall. My computer would get really hot that if it was on my skin I it felt like it was burning sometimes. I have a new battery so it doesnt get as hot as it use to plus the added bonus of my computer wont possibly catch on fire anymore

Also, if you use your computer on your bet a lot, and prevent air flow to your hard drive, you can say bye bye to your hard drive.
I am so much more careful about my airflow to my computer. I can't have that again!

I had to go onto the Dells website. I then had to type in the serial number off of battery. Then they told me if I needed a new one. The recall was awhile ago so if just got your computer you are probably fine

hi, i have an acer extensa 4420 4Gigs ram, 250Gig HD, 1 Gig vid card and mine getts very hot too. i have noticed many ppl with dells have the overheating problem a lot... why is that?
18My laptop only burns up when I use FireFox with quite a few tabs opened.
I just ran a test. I shut down FireFox. My Dell laptop is as cool as my toes now. When I open FF up again, it gets as hot as my stove. sheesh!
Safari browser doesn't burn up my system but that darn FF...
