Yesterday Google quelled rumors of a Gphone and announced an Open Handset Alliance and Android, an open platform for cell phones that includes an operating system, user-interface and applications.
In a press release the company said it hopes "Android will be the foundation for many new phones and will create an entirely new mobile experience for users, with new applications and new capabilities we can’t imagine today."
Google developed Android with the Open Handset Alliance, which consists of more than 30 companies including Motorola, Samsung, LG Electronics, eBay, Sprint and T-Mobile.
As someone who is utterly addicted to Google's mobile features, such as Google Maps and Google 411, I can't wait to check out the new platform and see if it rivals the way the iPhone integrates Google applications. Are you eager to check it out, or were you expecting a Gphone?

I can't wait to check it out - I wonder what applications will be built it. I don't think I could live without google maps anymore. It's the reason I show up anywhere on time.
1im too loyal to my iphone.
2i dont really care, i want to get the voyager phone from verizon
3I'm addicted to all things Google...I can't wait!!!
4I love that the pic of this iPhone is showing directions to Kara's Cupcakes. I love this place and visit it every time I am in San Francisco.
5hmm. if it'll always direct me to someplace with sweets like kara's, then yes. feed me, seymore!
6oh yea i love the new outfits the differet sugar characters are wearing
7I couldn't care less about the Google Platform. Google hasn't shown true innovative ideas over the last time in my humble opinion (sure, they buy a heckload of webservices and put the google button on them).
Why yet another platform? We have the MS OS, Symbian and some others already. I'm far from convinced this will be anything better.
Woohoo text ads when I want to call someone!
8I definitely want to check it out.
9I am a little bummed that they aren't doing a phone, but I am psyched to see the platform. I personally prefer windows, and even like window mobile, but there is something missing there that I think Google will understand more so then Apple.
10I would love, love, love to check out the Google platform -- I just hope Verizon signs on, because my boyfriend and my entire family are on Verizon and we're not about to switch anytime soon. Hopefully I can get a Voyager with a Google platform!
11I have a TREO and I love it but this morning I was playing with my friend's iPhone and I gotta say....it was love at first sight!
12I love Google and everything Google has ot offer.
I would def check this out and switch phones.
I just really want an iPhone.
13Mmmm, Kara's Cupcakes ...
Mmmm, cupcakes ...
Sorry, what was the question?
Anyway, I'm really excited for this! As I understand it, I'll still be able to pick my own phone and service provider, and that's important to me. If I end up with AT&T when my Sprint contract is up, I might still consider an iPhone, but it's so nice to have another potentially cool option.
14Not sure what phone I want!
