The great debate regarding the new MacBooks, which run on the Intel Core 2 Duo and allow users to run select Windows programs, continues, although most users are generally pleased with the innovation. What are your thoughts about running Windows on a Mac? Furthermore, what are your thoughts on Justin Long?

I am in love with my mac, and I will never go back!!
1Oh you've opened a horrible can of worms
Maybe on geeksugar we can stay a bit more
civilized but on sites like engadget.com the comment sections go crazy with nastiness and name calling. Apple Fanboy being the dirtiest
There is such a strong hatred by a few PC enthusiast for those of us who love and adore our
Macs. Right this moment I am on my big girl MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo booted to Windows XP. This is foreign and very uncomfortable for me. Why do I do it you ask? Gaming. The fact that I
can toss my poopy PC out the window and stay on my beloved Mac hardware for everything I need to do is fantastic.
Using BootCamp to run XP is probably the most intrusive way to do it, but necessary if you want to game. For my day to day XP needs (which are slim btw) I use Parallels. This allows you to run a window of XP on your Mac and keep all your emailing and internet browsing safe and sound. I'm using FireFox on the XP side to type this and I can tell you this just isn't pretty. I use the same browser on the Mac side and we are talking night and day. I've really tried to get into my XP and configure it, play with it and make it into something that I would think is appealing to 95% of the computing population... I love my Mac and I'm going to go boot into X now
2Oh, and Justin Long is WAY hot
3I can't imagine running Windows when I had a Mac. I LOVED my mac and my Panther (I think) OS X. The only reason I went back to PC was that I got REALLY tired of not being able to pay some of my bills online and not being able to use a LOT of the government sites needed for my husband's job and just the general compatibility issues. But my Mac was way pretty. I do miss it.
4I have a Mac just because I've always used one. I know very little about Pcs and they are hard for me to use.
5Is it true that Macs will now be susceptible to more viruses because of the new Intel chip?
PC user here. I love my Gateway. I just try to be responsible about what I download onto my computer to keep it running. I don't need to make movies or anything fancy, just simple computer things. It's gotten me through almost 3 years of college, so its doing me just fine.
My experiences with Macs haven't been fun. When I really need to use a computer and all the PCs in the computer lab are in use, I try to use the Macs. Right clicking seems like its very important feature. I've tried to download things from emails on a Mac and the whole hold ctrl + click thing just never worked for me.
I heard Justin Long isn't going to be in the Mac commercials anymore.
~M~
6For the compatibility issues you'd use the Parallels, that's why I have it on my Mac. These days it is becoming less and less of an issue, especially when you have web browsers like FireFox.
As far as the virus thing goes, it's the XP that is the security risk not the Intel chip. Which means when I'm booted to XP I need to be just as careful as anyone on a Dell. The thing that has really kept the Mac virus and spy ware free is the fact that it is only 5% of the market share. The tides are changing... Apple ships with a 2 button mouse even
In two more years or so we probably wouldn't even need to have this conversation.
7No worries everyone, I'm a firm believer that everyone has to find their own comfort zone when it comes to computers. We celebrate PC and Mac users, but as Macgirl pointed out, the recent Intel Core Duo presents some really interesting questions about the divide. I've heard some rumors about Justin Long not continuing with the Apple commercials as well...I'll investigate and get back to you.
8Interesting! I run a mac at home and use a pc at work... well versed in both. both have their strengths. i just think it's so interesting that even a couple of yrs ago, there wasn't any great interest in the mac- pc was all you heard of, all you saw promoted... how the ipod has changed the whole landscape. i have as many problems with the mac as i did with the pc at home, whatever... but apple has done an amazing marketing job. think about it... napster was around way before the portable mp3 player was. (back when all were illegal) but the ease of integration with the ipod vs. iriver or any of the other players is what's started the mac reinvention. someone very very smart did the front end legwork with making itunes compatible with windows from the start...
9oh... and macs are super pretty. all sleek and matchy matchy...like candy.
10I have the oh so lovely PC and its all I have ever known. All of my friends have Macs because its the "cool" thing to have. It confuses me I dont know where anything is....its just to hip for me. When I was getting my cable and internet hooked up the cable guy told me this
All I know how to do is hook in my power cord, modem cord, USB 2.0 cord and type
super fast. Thats all I really need to know about my computer. Of course Im pro with all the Microsoft programs
"Thank god you have a PC"
(me)" Why"
"Its difficult to hook up the Mac to the modem"
"oh ok :?"
Also I have had classes where we give power point presentations. We hook are laptops up to a cord that projects onto a screen. Everyone who had Macs could hook theirs up because they didnt have the right thingy the cord goes into. Its the one that has two screw in sites on each side of a plug with a lot of holes. As you can tell I know what I am talking about when it comes to computers
I like to go to overseas places- like Canada!

I've always had a mac.
12I think i'm 'ambidextrous' - ok with both the PC and MAC, cos i use my PC to play SIMS, games are more PC friendly than Mac and also cheaper~ and they come out faster..
But I love the lifestyle features that comes with Mac, such as the i-photo, i-tunes, podcasting, the visuals on MAC are just better!
but, work wise, you know, the usual word documents, excel etc still works better on PC. So i switch between both computers at home and work.
13I switched from a PC to my iBook a few years ago, and I'm never going back. I can do everything I need to do on my mac--word processing, taxes, banking, etc. (For my needs--mostly word processing as I'm a humanities grad student--I don't have any troubles running the Microsoft programs I use, like Word and Excel).
The main reason I wouldn't switch is that I simply find my mac more user-friendly. I don't have to worry about viruses, which is a big concern as I occasionally print files on campus computers (as an undergrad, my pc used to get all sorts of nasties from computer labs). In three years, in addition to never getting a virus, I also have only had a few crashes (which were a sign of a bigger issue that was easily and speedily remedied by mac people for free under my warranty), have never had to de-frag, and haven't arbitrarily "lost" documents the way I did on my pc. I also don't have to deal with spy-ware. I also like the customer service, and the fact that I can just take my computer to a store and don't have to deal with someone on the phone (even after your warranty is done). I'm sure there's stuff I can't do on this little guy, but for my needs, my iBook is more than enough, and usb thumb drives make it easy for me to open files on pcs when necessary. To each her own, I suppose.
Oh, and as for Justin Long, I'm from the same hometown as him. I didn't know him, however, as he was a grade or so above me in the boys school in town (some of my friends were his classmates a grade below him, but we never crossed paths). He also has a younger brother (who did go to my school--a grade or two below) who looks remarkably similar to him. Anyway, he seemed like a nice, regular sort of guy, and I'm glad he's doing well.
14I have always had a mac.
15i changed to mac this year... and i will never go back!!!!!!
16i do have windows xp in my macbook (w/ bootcamp) but i just use it if there's a program i cant find for mac... like compilers and that sort of stuff.... (i study computer science) soooo... basically...
once u go mac... u never go back....
I'm in college and I have a Mac iBook G4. This thing rocks. Yes, it's not very compatible with anything Microsoft makes. You do have to go to specialty or order online to get good games and other features for a Mac. But it's comforting to know I won't ever have to download Norton Antivirus. Also, my laptop has an internal modem so anywhere there's wireless I can get internet access. Plus, there are a lot of things Macs can do that PCs can't. I prefer the Mac generally because I've already named my computer and because all the gadgets that Mac makes like ipods and others are easiest to run on a Mac. Plus, my mac's battery power lasts 4 hours and a pc laptop's battery power only lasts 2 hours. Anyways, keep rocking a mac for those that do.
17To jenster,
PCs can have internal wireless cards, its not solely something available to Macs. Thats what I used to post most of my comments today.

18I think the BIGGEST advantages that Macs have over PC's are simply the fact that they're cheaper.
19But I use a Mac at school, and a PC at home, and....well, Macs ROCK. THat's what I'm asking for for my graduation this year (an iBook, of course).
Macs are really good if your artsy with your computer, using Photoshop and such - I use Photoshop at home AND at school, and honestly, there's no comparison.
It's the same program, but the Mac platform brings it to a totally different level.
I've never had problems viewing any sites on the Macs at school.
I feel that for me, Macs are just on a whole other level.
The new Macs are much better than the one the had a couple of years ago which just crashed all the time for NOOO reason - Apple has seemed to fix that problem.
I thought Macs were easier to use than PC's...but it might just be me.
And even better is that almost everything on the web is now being remodelled to work with Macs too...can't wait for the Mac friendly world.
i have both... ive always been a pc girl, though. the desktop mac is brand new and has little issues with freezing and such, something my year-old laptop (hp) has never done.
20but i do like the versatility and ease of use on the mac.
I just think that Macs are so much further ahead technology wise. My fiance has converted me from a PC and I will never go back! The Mac is great for any graphic programs but it does kinda suck for gaming. Which, I don't do so it doesn't really matter to me. The user interface is so much more sleek and friendly on a Mac and the design of the computer is
21unparalleled by any PC.
--Lauren--
Mac for years and years.
22I use both platforms at work. Flash prefers PCs. boo.
We have a PC at home and at work, too. My husband thinks our next purchase, which should be soon, should be a Mac. I'm nervous.
23Yes, I feel that Macs are just a world above PCs. I've always had Macs, but have had to use PCs at school and work. PCs just feel so mechanical and a means to get tasks done, but I have genuine LOVE for my macs! I can still do all the same things that I can do with the PCs (though it's just so much more enjoyable!), and much, much more! And on the outside, they're really beautifully engineered and size/weight efficient (so compact!).
As for freezing, I've never had that problem (I kind of always thought of it as a PC thing--ie 'blue screen of death'), and all my friends who have used my Mac comment about how fast and amazing it is, and many of them have gone out and bought Macs of their own afterwards!
24I have a PC and have never had a problem with freezing. Although when this laptop goes which will probably be awhile because this PC is only two years old I might get a Mac

Off subject, but this guy is trying to sell a potato chip that is shaped like Pac Man on eBay. Just type in "xbox chip"
26
I so want to add that to my watch list.
That is too funny.
27I love how the Pac man chip is 99 cents but the shipping is 7.50

I love Macs. I switched over in college and will never go back!
And Justin Long seems like a sweetie, but (and this is going to sound so dorky) John Hodgman (the Mac) is one of the funniest guys out there. He's on the Daily Show a lot as their "resident expert." He gets that fantastic title because of this book he wrote called "The Areas of My Expertise. It reads like an almanac of facts, but is particularly awesome because he made it all up.
29Moni B-
I know the PC has internal modem cards, but I don't know. My mac just makes me happy. So I wouldn't go back to a PC if I can help it. It's nice to know people also love the macs, especially iBooks. They just rock!

30After 22 years as a PC user, I made the switch to a MacBook this summer after my PC of 4 years died a very sudden death-- it just shut off one day, and wouldn't turn back on. I had been eyeing Macs for a while, and had gotten the hang of using my boyfriend's PowerBook. Now that I have my Mac, I don't think I could ever go back. Yes, even the cheapest Mac is more expensive than most PCs, but it's worth every penny. Its plug-and-play technology far surpasses that of Windows XP, it's faster, and file management is so intuitive: the drag-and-drop principle is sooo consistent throughout the programs on my Mac.
31A HUGE plus is not having to worry about viruses or spyware; my old computer was positively riddled, and no matter how many scans you run, you can never get rid of them all. Unfortunately, I don't think this advantage will be around much longer, as the Macs get more of the market share and viruses are engineered to target them.
If you're worried that you won't be able to figure out a OS X after years of running Windows, don't be; you'll pick it right up. It's all just logical, you don't NEED to right click (though I hear that Macs will soon be capable of that), and you get used to OS X very fast. And let's face it, my Mac is so pretty!
We have PCs but we want to get a Mac when the laptop dies because PCs are so LOUD!
32Idk, I'm at an engineering/ tech school, I haven't had any problems with my PC. My boyfriend is a computer science major and a programming junkie, and he seems to have a very strong disliking for macs. I think they are useful for artsie things applications alot of archies seem to like them, but most of the other engineering majors I know don't have many good things to say when it comes to mac.
33I like PC's.....whenever I use a mac it frustrates me.
34i currently use parallels to run certain windows applications in mac os x. i like to play with ms paint a lot, like it's my art form. if i was going to completely enjoy my mac i needed to be able to use certain programs fromwindows. i have a windows partition on my mac mini but sometimes you just cant be bothered to boot into windows for one thing. i hate rebooting, so lazy lol
35PC's stink. They look horrible. Feel terrible. & did I mention that they stink? Mac all the way baby...yeah! Jobs for President.
36I have Suse on my PC and Windows on my laptop. Once that laptop goes down, I prolly will do Unix or Linux instead.
37I dont even know what a mac is!
38i love my mac. i am using it right now. we have always had macs at our house right now we have an ibook, mac book pro, power book G4 and i mac
39I've had a Dell as well as several Macs so I know how to run both but Macs are my computer of choice!
40I love my MacBook. It is definitely the best money I have spent in a long time.
41I definetly agree that a can of worms have opened. When I first used a computer it was a pc. At school they had macs and I hated it. However, later, I went on to study graphic design, and I was forced to use a macintosh. After a while, I fell in love with the macintosh and never went back. Don't get me wrong. I think both a PC and a Mac have their pros and cons.
42I love my mac but I have to switch to windows because it is so much more aforable right now for me. And I need a new computer. Ah but as soon as I get some cash flowing in I will go back to mac with my arms wide open in slow motion hugging it
hehe. I have no problem with
windows tho. It is just that I am more comfprtable with mac since I have been using it for very long time.
43http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id_kGL3M5Cg i just found it and its funny!!
44used to have a pc, now i have a year with a MAC i will never change back
45i love every little details of my mac
i play game: SIMS, WOW is all i need
