When I was in college online courses were still a little risky — or at least underdeveloped — but it seems more and more universities are offering online courses and even courses dedicated to online phenomenons like YouTube. It's a trend that is apparently infiltrating other age groups.
According to a recent North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL) survey, only 7 percent of all elementary or secondary students have ever taken an online course, while four in ten, or 40 percent, of all tweens are interested in taking an online course before graduating from high school.

I'm actually taking one right now, for poetry. =) The professor is extremely busy, and it's a senior level class, so it's easiest for us to do it this way. =)
I have taken one every summer since college and every other Winter break so that I can graduate early. They are awesome, but cost an extra $150.
I think in Wisconsin we have an online-h.s. for students who don't make it so well in a normal h.s. setting.
I'm sure it will move more and more towards interactive online learning. For now though, when we get a resume from someone that has a University of Phoenix degree it still seems kind of like a joke
I want to so that I can actually finish school but I don't trust them, I am too worried I'd get scammed or something.
I took one offered through my community college. It was a joke and we printed out the lecture notes to take the quizzes. Half the time, I didn't even read the lectures, just printed out the lectures and aced the quizzes.
my mom is taking some classes online and its alot better since she works full time
I've been looking at my school's set-up and it seems pretty self-explanatory (coming from someone who has never taken an online course before). I'm glad my college has my class offered online. Not only I can work more hours during the winter session break, but I'm still taking classes at the same time.
It's nice that schools (well for mine at least) offer classes online so you can get them out of the way. (: Somehow though, you'll find someone who'll abuse the opportunity, but what can you do..you'll have those kind of people everywhere.
i've taken a few online classes. some are really easy online, like computer classes, and some are really hard, like textiles. going to class is nice but i never read the books or lectures. i have to listen to lectures and i learned that by not having that option in the online class. if you are a reader and not a listener, then this would be a great option for you. a lot of my business classes had online quizzes and things like that which where fine. it's really easy to look up answers online as long as you do it fast enough because they are usually timed.
I haven't taken a college course online, but a temp agency I was working for had courses about different software and I really improve my skills at Excel!
I spent a couple of years, that included many many long nights and weekends, working towards an MSc in Computer Science online from University of Liverpool. They've got a great program with the same curriculum and requirements as the on campus one - online graduates can even go to the graduation ceremony in Liverpool.
I've taken a few online classes - they fit in great with my schedule because I work full time.
i took an online class about designing websites. i didn't like it too much. I don't like reading big chunks of text on a computer screen.
I practically did my entire degree that way and loved it. I traveled a lot for work so it worked for my schedule.
Online classes are great, I've taken several to supplement my brick and mortar degrees. I'm actually thinking of getting a Masters in Library Science, and an online degree may be the way to go...
I loved online classes until this semester when I made the mistake of scheduling ALL my classes online since I couldn't find a roommate or apartment for my last semester of college. It was a huge mistake because there is so much more work involved!
Not yet but I'd like to.
i went to the university of south florida and thankfully, they offered many courses online and it worked perfectly for me to finish my degree while working full time...combined night, weekends and online courses.
i went to the university of south florida and thankfully, they offered many courses online and it worked perfectly for me to finish my degree while working full time...combined night, weekends and online courses.
Took graphic design classes online. It wasnt so much as hard, but very time consuming with the projects we had to finish.
I thought online it would have been easier, but it takes a lot of self-discipline to handle online classes.
i took an administration class online and it was kewl because we could watch him lecture via stream and all. it was good. i enjoyed it. the only thing is that i would procrastinate and watch like 2 weeks of classes in one day. that was the worst, but that was on me though
My husband is taking a full term of online classes this term, because our unit was supposed to be training in Egypt but it got canceled...so there wasn't enough time to take regular classes. He likes it because he can work full time now and hang out with me...it's not that bad taking them online. It just costs a little bit more at our university.
I'm starting a Master's program where most of our courses are online. It's great, especially since I work full time.
Just traffic school.
I took one in high school because it was a super easy course that was required to graduate - basically the whole thing was about the importance of getting an education, and it also taught budgeting skills and sex ed. Seriously! Plus, I got extra credit for doing it online so that made me happy
Also, a lot of my courses now have parts online. For example, one of them has interactive modules and related quizzes that have to be completed about once every two weeks.
I would, if they offered science classes online. Sigh, but I guess we need "lab" experience for those.
Online classes are what keep me in a job. When the professor delivers and designs them correctly, there are fabulous!
I'm taking one right now! I have to though, I'm in law school part time and in order to keep my insurance I need to be a full time student. One online class gives me enough credits for that.
Yea I have. They're great (depending on the subject)! Some may say that they're easy than regular class but that not really true. I liked the fact that I didnt have to go to class physically or listen to a prof talk for over an hour. I simply had to read, participate and write papers.
I took a few and failed every single one of them.
I took a bunch of online college courses and loved them! It was so great to be able to do the work when I could and turn in the work when it was ready, even if it was prior to the deadline. I highly recommend this form of education.
no.
I took one in the Fall of 2006. It was in a subject I wasn't really strong in (statistics!), but I chose it over taking it in a real class. And actually, it was really good for me. It made me keep up with the work, and through taking my time with writing my responses, I was able to get points for participation, which is something I probably never could have achieved had I taken a real class.
no but i will
In my opinion is a great Swindling ....
wanted to but never gotten around to doing so
I've taken one or two before, but I'm not a fan of the format. I feel like I learn better in a classroom setting. Although I have to admit that in a classroom, I'm more likely to slink back and not participate... but on the internet, I'm a regular chatterbox. Go figure.
i've taken several...my comment got so long i blogged it over in grad school girls. here's a snippet of my advice:
-- make sure the institution offering the course is accredited. this ensures the degree you're getting will meet minimum academic standards. elearners.com has a great article on the importance of accreditation here. if you're curious about a degree right now, check out the council of higher education accreditation's database of institutions and programs here.
I took a sort-of online course. All of the information was online, and we were in charge of doing assignments in our textbook and writing 10 essays. We met 4 times during the semester, twice for the midterm and twice for the final. I got a little behind and ended up doing most of the assignments right before they were due, but the review sessions were awesome, because the teacher was excellent at summing up the two halves of the course within the time given.
I'd do it again!
They much more easier and convenient!
