I've been playing with the Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC for about a month, but I didn't truly understand the device's possible demographic until I watched last week's premiere of Gossip Girl.
In case you haven't read the books or seen the show, "Gossip Girl" is an anonymous blogger (narrated by the fabulously geeky Kristin Bell!), who details the scandals and adventures of a group of wealthy New York City teenagers. The group of friends is completely mesmerized by the content of the blog, so you actually see them logging on to the site with their Sidekicks and fancy Smartphones.
Let's face it, no matter how great your Sidekick, BlackBerry or iPhone is, no web browsing experience is going to match being on a real computer. I can't help but think the "Gossip Girl" characters would be able to enjoy the blog better using a Q1, which is a 1.5-pound, one inch thin portable computer that features a 7-inch touchscreen, built-in QWERTY keyboard (you can also type on the screen with a Stylus) and easy wireless connectivity. While it realistically wouldn't fit into a trendy clutch, it is shockingly lightweight and I see where it could be a remarkable tool (or at least toy) for anyone who likes to stay connected while traveling or in class.

It took me a while to get used to the Q1's split QWERTY keyboard, which is split in half on either side of the screen, so I settled on using the touchpad keyboard on the device. Once I got the hang of using the Stylus I was able to surf the web and use Microsoft Word with complete ease. The device is a definite upgrade from using your phone to access the web and only a slight downgrade from the control you feel when working on a full-sized laptop. If you happen to be a gossip girl of sorts and like to log on to certain sites while you are on the go — like maybe a little site called PopSugar — you'd probably adore the Q1.
The Samsung Q1 Ultra works with Windows Vista Home Premium and costs about $1,200 online. Check out Samsung's Microsite for a closer look.

It might take awhile to get used to something like that but I bet it would be handy to have!
1That looks awesome!!!!! It's perfect to take with you for an afternoon of bumming in Starbucks.
2It looks clunky, but its about the same size as a small laptop right?
3That looks so cool
4How awesome is this! it's like a baby laptop
5How big is it?
6It looks like it has a 7-inch touchscreen and is an inch thick. That's pretty small.
7I wanted one of these until I got my iPhone. Now they seem too big and too expensive for pretty much the same functions (and lacking the phone). And I've got a laptop if I need to type up reports.
8This would definetly be handy to have, but it is way too big for normal use.
9that looks cool!
10hmm i dunno it looks huge.
11Can we get some Windows vista haha. I'm feeling this for sure. It's pretty cool.
12whoa! what is that? it is so huge!
13thats e=really sweet
14*so
15gosh I want this!!!
16OMJ! Awesomeness.
