Last week I asked all of you to geek out and share your very first cell phone as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the mobile phone. It was actually glam sugar's idea, so I have to give her a little shout out for initiating the idea, which ended up being a real exercise in jumbo gadgetry.
I have to make a special note of verily's Motorola MicroTAC, which has all the best "first cell phone qualities." Yes, it was a flip phone, but it was also large and in charge.
"My first phone was a hand-me-down from my dad, who needed a cell phone for his job," says verily. "This was considered a revolutionary phone because it was a "small" flip phone instead of the giant bricks that preceded it. I have an iPhone now, so I've definitely come a long way!" Oh yes my fellow iPhoner, you sure have!

Ooh, super old school!
My very first one ever was a Nokia 3310. I
remember when white backlighting and composing ring tones were such a big deal...
1mine was the Nokia 918! and i had a cool white and pink roxy cover for it!!.. it was pretty pimped!! haha.. for being 14 that is!!!
2I'm glad to see I am not the only one who had one of those big heavy phones as my first!
3oh man i never got mine posted!
4lol I used to have one of those old HUGE Nokias! I remember when my friend got a cell phone w/ a color screen - we were all sooo jealous!
5i had like a nokia 3310 or something. it had the best version of the snake game i've ever found on a cell phone! when it was time for an upgrade, i seriously considered keeping it for that reason only. nevermind it weighed like five lbs., no color, and crappy ringtones.
6Mine was a Motorola Startac
7While the design of phones has improved, I'm still amazed by how awful the user interface is. My Blackberry looks chic from afar, but check out what's going on under it's glass screen, and it feels like a trip back to the 1990s. Given, I wasn't old enough in the 1990s to know what an equivalent professional phone at the time looked like (I was enjoying my non-flip Motorola), I can't imagine the interface was much worse!
8I used to think my 918 was so awesome because I had Bubble Bobble and Batman ringtones for it.
9my first cell phone was the motorola v2397-i was so excited about it but i never used it. mind you i was in the 8th grade when i got it.
10haha some of them look so funny now!
11i couldn't remember what mine was - didn't have it for long.
12My first cell phone was one of those old Nokia's everyone has with the changeable face plates. I have had like a million phones, but my favorite was the Panasonic Allure
