When it comes to women and pink electronics the debate, accusations and "studies" seem unending. First the New York Times confirms that in order to appeal to women, manufacturers need to go way beyond pink (we agree!), then people start talking about the fact that women may be hardwired to prefer pink (what?!) and now we are back at square one with a study that says women routinely say no to the color.
Advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi recently polled female internet users in the UK and found that most of them believe manufacturers and retailers don't understand what they care about and don't view them as a relevant group of customers, according to Register Hardware.
On average the women polled said they spend about £321 (or $651USD) on personal technology every year. Wired got a closer look at the study and noted that only 9 percent of the women polled want products that "look feminine," like a pink Playstation or Hello Kitty keyboards. The remaining 91 percent said they like "sleek and sophisticated, more boardroom than teenage bedroom."
I'm assuming they won't be purchasing the new pink Sony "Jet Juke." And yes, I would have told them the same thing.

I used to be able to tolerate the color pink, & then paris hilton came on the scene followed immediately by the color pink. It seemed the color was everywhere & I for one refuse to go overload on the "pink"... yuk
1I admit... I own a Pink Razr phone, and my digital camera is pink, but the color wasn't the only reason I bought either of them! I guess I'm in the minority that likes the pink electronics!! (But that stereo is hideous!)
2A smaller, more personal pink electronics I item is something I'd buy. But when it's going to go in my house as a big item (like a stereo) I wouldn't buy it. First, it doesn't match the rest of the house, and Second, it's my husband's place, too. I don't want a Barbie house, I want a nice home. BUT - a pink cell phone or a pink digicam or a pink MP3 player is cool because it's obviously mine and it's not an overwhelming amount of color. It's like having on pink earrings, but not pink pants.

4First of all I loved pink WAAY before I knew who Paris Hilton was, and I love to throw pink electronics into the mix, they're bright fun and girlie. Having a pink ipod totally keeps my boyfriends hands off of it

5I'm not a big fan of pink really, so I guess I wouldn't buy pink gadgets.
6I think the real issue is that some companies produce pink gadgets specifically "for women" because they think women will like the stereotypically "female" color more. It's fine to link pink and like and purchase pink gadgets, it's just uncomfortable when an entire gender is dumbed down like that. Or at least lumped in a general "you all must love pink" category.

9I'm not a woman I don't konw any woman who likes pink in gadgets, the most of them like the blue in every thing (gadget and other things) and for me I like the gadgets in black

11Who cares if we do anyway? I personally love pink and I don't care if people judge me for it, that's them being ignorant. Like I wouldn't use girly gadgets exclusively or go out of my way to look for them but if I had the option then why not, some are pretty cute.
12My fave color is pink, but I wouldn't buy a pink cell phone or iPod or anything like that. The only thing that I have that's pink that relates to electronics are a pair of pink ear buds. Other than that, it's black or silver for my electronics.

15I'd love to see them move beyond pink, if they're going to be targeting these products at women. Give it an interesting, feminine pattern, make it more than just one color- bubblegum pink- that sort of thing. I'm not against pink, but if I were going to buy something that color, it would be a deeper, more intense shade- not Hello Kitty pink. I don't think it's dumbed down unless the products themselves are inferior to the ones aimed more at men.
16I like colorful gadgets but some things are kind of crazy --- like that stereo. Gah.
And I agree: baby pink is kind of gross in mass quantity. Then again, I'm not a big fan of pastels anyway.
I once did a paper on color study; bubblegum pink was a soothing color to people who were upset but, if left in a pink room too long, they got upset again. It's crazy.

18Im a girl and I can not stand the color pink. Even more than I hate pink are pink electronics. I almost find it insulting to think that if a company makes something that color, all the woman will want it.
Takes more than a color for me to like it, but it can simply take a color for me to hate it.
19I do like when electronics are available in multiple colors. If red was available, I would chose that over pink anyday.
I agree with Nightwind, it is insulting and unforunate that companies believe the pink is what will bring female customers to them. When I buy something, it's because of functionality not color.
The 2 pink gadgets I have are my razr and my nano. I was stuck with a black PSP and a grey DS phat. Still would have preferred them in red though whereas, my mother prefers the color blue when it's available. (Blue DS, iPod Mini, and GBA for example.) So each women is different.
20I dunno, the color pink is fine in moderation... I wold never purchase a gadget BECAUSE its pink, and I think tis crazy for companies to believe that assumption. I find myself going more toward the sleekier more modern looking electronics which are usually in black. What would be nice and a bit of a challenge to these companies is to come up with more sophisticated looking gadgets using the color pink. Now that would be revolutionary!..
