Cell phone use causing cancer — certainly not something we haven't heard before and not something that is going away anytime soon. First we learn that the electromagnetic radiation from cell phones doesn't cause cancer and when I asked you if you were worried about your cell phone increasing your risk of getting cancer, most of you said no.
The latest news? Well it doesn't get more legit than the World Health Organization, who have been working on a ten-year investigation called Interphone to see if there were any correlations between prolonged cell phone use and brain tumors. According to CNN the study will be published by the end of the year, and did reveal that those who had cell phones for 10 years or longer had the strongest risk of tumors.
And another recent study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology supports the link between cell phone use and tumors as well. The CNN article states:
Studies that looked at people who had used cell phones 10 years or longer tended to find the strongest risk of tumors. Researchers found that cell phone users had a 10 percent to 30 percent higher risk than people who barely, if ever, used this technology.
They also touch on Bluetooth devices, which aren't as harmful, but could cause tumors if worn on your ear all day. I don't know about you, but whenever I know I'm going to have a long cell phone conversation, I make sure to pop in my ear piece (not a Bluetooth) so that my phone isn't glued to my head for a couple of hours.
What do you think? Would you consider changing your cell phone habits after learning about these findings?

"...the link between cancer and tumors..."
I think you meant "...the link between cell phones and tumors...."
1Yes indeed. Thanks for the heads up
2I don't actually talk on my cellphone all that much. I mostly use it for texting and data, so I'm not too concerned about getting a brain tumor.
3I'm with Beth - I use it for mostly texting.
GeekSugar, you should re-poll readers about their increased texting after they read this article to see how it differs from your poll yesterday.
4So if you don't have a BT earpiece what do you have? One of those corded deals? I have heard about it and I thought there was something to it to the point that I didn't have one for quite some time! I am aware of keeping it off of my head though until my headset was found in the church parking lot....time to shop especially after reading this! But, yeah I'm with everyone else...like the other post about texting I do that much more.
5Ooo good idea dexaholic! And Letia, I either use this for my iPhone: http://www.geeksugar.com/3151973 and this for my BB: http://www.blackberrysource.com/store/catalog.asp?item=704
6i've had my cellphone for years ... but i never really talked that much. i hate having a phone cradles under my chin. i'd rather people msg me, or a bust out the old school headset.
7Then it's great that I'm not too much of a cell-phone freak, then. Thanks for the info, GeekSugar.
8If I ran a cell phone company, I would take this as motivation to figure out a way to reduce or eliminate the cancer-causing properties of the cell phone. People aren't going to be giving up the convenience of cell phones now, so it's better to be ahead of the changing market.

Evidence still fuzzy on cell phones, cancer
This news article mentions WHO as well and also how a lot of research can be criticized.
10I'm reading this as I'm smoking a ciggarette and drinking a diet pop. If this is true I foresee some high healthcare costs in the near future
