A recent survey released by Retrevo (an electronics shopping site) comparing iPhone and Blackberry users paints an interesting picture. The respondents are 445 iPhone and BlackBerry owners distributed across gender, age, income, and location in the US. Highlights include:
- 35 percent of iPhone users would be turned off by a date with outdated gadgets.
- iPhone owners use their phones more — they claim to consume more adult content, videos, news, and sports scores.
- iPhone owners text more often than BlackBerry users.
- iPhone owners claim to be more extroverted, bigger jocks, and more intellectual.
I use both a BlackBerry and an iPhone, so I'm not sure how I feel about the results of the survey. Do you agree with any of them? Are iPhone owners seriously more into porn that BlackBerry owners? Hmm . . .

Hmmm, it's a pretty small sample of people... I would agree that iPhone users DO text more, but only because they don't have BBM & PIN messaging so they have no choice.
Not sure about the porn thing... Personally in my circle of friends, the iPhone users are mostly young, jockish guys and the BB users are more the professional type, so that could have something to do with it... the professionals may be nervous about accessing adult content on a handset owned by their company, or they may just have a nicer set-up at home so they don't have to watch their porn on a 4" screen lol
1Well, that does look like it's trying to fulfill the steriotype that 90% of people who get iPhones instantly become d-bags.
2This part is my favorite:
"When the study asked smartphone owners to characterize themselves, iPhone owners rated themselves higher as Intellectuals, Extroverts, and Media Buffs than BlackBerry owners. Interestingly though, partners of BlackBerry owners ranked their BlackBerry owning partners slightly higher in these areas. "
And no, I am not an owner of either (or any) smartphone.
3Oh my goodness:
"The responses have a confidence interval of 4% at a 95% confidence level."
That's pretty poor.
4I knew a guy who had a porn video of himself on his blackberry. I love my iPhone but no way in hell am I superior than anyone else.
5I use both as well. Both phones have their areas of ease. So I guess people that have the iphone would say they enjoy media more is because media is better on the iphone. But if you want to multi task and get things done then the blackberry is the way to go. I enjoy both phones (iphone 3g and blackberry tour) and between the two of them I can get a full day out of the batteries. I enjoy using the iphone for networking programs but that is because it has wifi. My bb is on verizon, which till recently you couldn't get a bb with wifi on verizon. I never text on my bb but that is because just about everyone I talk to on a daily basis has a bb and we use bbm.
6HTC Hero all the way
7I just brought a Blackberry Curve 8530 and I also us an LG Lotus Android phone. I use the LG Lotus to access YouTube and Facebook. I access Twitter via Twitterberry on the Blackberry. I thought about switching to an iPhone but I changed my mind. I tried one out at the Apple Store, but I didn't like the interface. I use a Dell laptop with a wireless broadband modem. I use TweetDeck on my laptop. I am on the Sprint 4G network and have used a Blackberry for over a year and a half. I like the features on the Blackberry but I hate the trackball. My new Blackberry has no trackball which I love. Being an introverted geek, I guess I don't fit the profile of the typical iPhone user.
8Dear Shadowcat559,
The LG Lotus is NOT an Android phone. I've seen you claim this a few times and this is just NOT true. If someone at the Sprint store told you that, you were horribly misinformed.
9I think it depends on the person. I am a Blackberryer and use my phone a lot for texting and BBM whereas some of my friends with the Iphone don't text as much with it. I disagree with this whole survey actually because I don't think a population that uses one item as opposed to another can be generalized as having a characteristic in greater abundance.
