This week Steve Jobs announced a $200 price cut for the 8GB iPhone, bringing the price down from $599 to $399. While a price reduction is always nice, many early adopters — who purchased the device for full price — are less than pleased. In fact, so many people expressed their anger to Apple that Jobs penned an open letter to iPhone owners and offered us a $100 credit for the Apple Store.
Should early adopters be complaining or is this just one of the many prices we must pay for wanting new gadgets the minute they come out? The same thing happened with my Marc Jacobs bag and I don't expect a store credit from Jacobs any time soon...I'm just saying...

I do not care. I do feel that it is the buyers fought. They shouldn't rush out to buy the first hottest item. They know that the price usually comes down. If you can't wait then that's your fought and ought to pay the higher price. I know every year when I go out and buy that hot game for my kids that is going to be obsolute the next year because they are going to come out with a new game. (ie.playstation 1, 2 and now 3). You cause the price in demand. If no one buys it at $599 they will eventually bring the price down. It's our foughts. Can't blame the company. I think the company is over compensating by giving $100 credit.
1i plan on purchasing it when it becomes available on my wireless carrier. i am currently with tmobile and have been for 8 years (in various incarnations), and i really don't want to leave them. they've been very good to me during 9/11 (i was stranded over 3K miles from home) and during the hurricanes (they gave me unlimited minutes because i was without home phone service for three weeks with two small children). it just gives me red-ass that the iPhone went with an exclusive carrier.
i also am interested to see how the 2nd- and 3rd-generation iPhones are going to be better than this one. i rarely buy a new gadget 1st gen anyway because i like to see the bugs worked out first.
2The iphone does nothing for me....absolutely NOTHING...
3Wow if it goes down to $250 maybe I'll purchase it...
Not! Because I don't like AT&T
4Meh. I'm more excited about the drop in Nano prices. I always put off buying gadgets for a looooong time, and my reluctance to join the iPod generation is paying off.
5I don't think there's any reason for early adopters to be upset. It happens with every gadget, why should the iPhone be any different? Besides, did anyone really think it was going to stay at $600 for very long?
6i'd be upset if i had bought one, but thats just because i'm always angry about finding out i could have gotten something for cheaper. 200 is a lot of dough. i always break my phones so i have to have the cheapest ones, i'll get an iphone if they're ever free.
7Isnt it common knowledge that first generation electronics cost more? Why are people complaining?
Personally I think stupid people go out and get the lastest and greatest as soon as it comes out. I think they just use it as a status symbol.
And often first generation have problems that are resolved on the next generations.
8I never buy tech stuff when it first comes out... work the bugs out, bring the price down, and then maybe I'll consider it.
I'd be pissed too, if I was an early adopter, even though I knew better LOL
9I wouldnt Say I'm Pissed but give me a break the phone was on the market 68 days before they cut the price by 200 bucks, if i knew that i would of waited. I bought my phone on july 26,2007 so i had it a lil over a month. I'm not to pissed though because say what you want AT&T pulled through for me, they gave me my 200 back, and come next week i will take Steve 100 too! so all in all my iphone will go from 599 to 299 easy... Thanks AT&T and Thanks Apple!
10i said i don't care, but i do - its great that a good product is cheaper so more people can have them. i bought my macbook when the new version was out in november and it has gotten a bit cheaper but oh well - i have used it in the mean time. how long should i wait until i buy something - until it is obsolete?
11It doesn't matter to me. It's just another thing I can live without.
12I'm ___ looking forward to my $100 credit. I would have bought it on June 29th even if I would have known it was dropping $200 in two months. I've gotten more use out of this phone with Mail, Safari and Google Maps than any phone before. I love it!
Oh and a little heads up for those of you planning on buying the newly reduced iPhone... Considering the iPod Touch comes with 16GB's of capacity I am betting you will see a 16GB iPhone in less than 6 months.
13Probably won't ever get one--unless Verizon carries it--then I might look.
14I'm with lolabella and I don't want to leave tmobile. I refuse to go to at&t. if it was another carrier, i might consider it, but not at&t.
15I could care less. I'm not going to feel bad for those people who just had to have the hottest thing right away. It's their fault if they wasted their $200.
16I'm going buy a second Iphone for the bathroom, I guess.
17I realize that prices get slashed all the time, but Apple NEVER does this. Therefore, it was completely unexpected. I feel bad for those who purchased it for the full price.
18I think this should have been expected and the extra 200 dollars is what you have to pay if you want it right away. Apple went above and beyond by giving its customers a 100 dollar store credit. I would be ecstatic!
19I understand that prices do go down because of advancement in technology that is pretty fast. The only thing that's really bad is that it was too fast, not even 3 months from the release date. I think that's the fastest ever price drop, a very big one to.
20I think it's funny. I don't want it, and I don't understand why someone would spend $600 on....um, a phone.
21I don't want it but it does show that it would've been better to wait to have one. I *may* be interested if they add more service providers seeing as AT&T gets no service in my room. Oh, and I have their internet service and it sucks too!
22You know honestly that is what the people who bought them when they first came out get!! Everyone knows that prices will drop on items if you wait long enough. Just becouse you want to get the item the moment they hit the shelves then you are going to pay the price!!!
23You know honestly that is what the people who bought them when they first came out get!! Everyone knows that prices will drop on items if you wait long enough. Just becouse you want to get the item the moment they hit the shelves then you are going to pay the price!!!
24I never considered buying an iPhone, but I think the price drop is completely fair and it was expected (we all know how Apple operates) and besides, giving the early adopters $100 credit is very nice of Apple.
25I don't care! What about the future price of the iPod Touch ???
26i'm glad that the price went down. i really don't like the plans that they offer, but i may which...lol
27I'm laughing my butt off. How perfect. It normally takes 6 months for the big price cut... and Apple did it in 2 months instead. Which makes one realize that Apple intended to do all along... that they purposely overpriced them.
28I'm much more likely to buy one now! Well, soonish at least.
29yes I'm more excited about the other newer apple products and i need a full keyboard on my cell because i txt all day. not a touchscreen I'll mess up on then throw my phone across the room.
30I'm super excited, so I bought one the day they announced it. Yay!
31I would serisously consider getting an iphone with the price drop, except tht i live in canada so there is no service provider. However i think the ipod touch looks ideal for me since i am really happy with my current Motorola Rizr
32i never cared for the iphone.. i got a better phone
33i think its stupid that so many people complained! thats part of the market these days! look at the PS3 and whatever else! its starts off at a ridiculous price because its the "hot thing to buy!" everyone knows the price will eventually go down if you wait! but those who want to flaunt what they've got or don't want to wait thats the price they pay!
34oh yeah...i'm more interested on the nano/video + price drop...they're super cute...but I'll still wait to buy that too.
35ok, i wasnt going to buy this generation iphone anyway - i like to have the kinks worked out first - for example the battery sucks, not to mention id have to get att which i do not want to do.
BUT
its really disgusting to all those loyal apple customers who went out and bought their iphone. and such a slap in the face that the $100 isnt even money back, its for more apple stuff.
not to mention that we all know that with the holiday season coming up, a new version will be coming out - which is probably why apple wants to clear out the old merchandise.
the whole thing just smells..really really really bad.
36Not @ all shocked. It happens with all new gadgets with the right amount of HYPE to follow! Really was not rocket science, hello.
37this is how they make MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
wasn't that surprised.
they paid for the status of owning an iphone early
38EVERYONE knows that if you want it for cheap, you have to wait. so it's their own fault for being impatient. especially when it comes to apple ipods. they come out with a new model before you get home and unwrap what you just bought.
39I wasn't going to buy one anyway so I don't really care. However, if someone were to give me one for free, I wouldn't refuse it.
40i'm still not going to buy it till they work out all the bugs. i'll wait till they cut down the price on the iPod touch and hang on to my nokia for phone use.
41I don't have a use for the i-phone, but the i-touch is pretty darn cool.
42I think people need to stop whining about paying for something. They really wanted it and were willing to pay the money at the time. End of story.
i really really want the iphone but if i get it and they come out with another one in like a month i'll go crazy
43am very glad that the price dropped. am with at&t and cant wait to get mine.
44I'm pumped. I went out and bought mine the next day!
45Great, my husband can now get me one for Christmas.
46These are the rules of the game. If you want it NOW, you pay full price, if you are patient and wise, you'll wait until they drop the price and save $200.00.
47I don't think early adopters have a right to complain. Almost everything goes on sale sooner or later....
I'm not that bothered tbh, it's not something I was intrested in buying, I am a sony ericsson fan all the way
48love it and bought one right away!
49Honestly? I feel like if people want new technology and just CAN'T wait, they have to realize that there is a steep price penalty that comes with that.
I am poor, so I always have to wait ANYWAYS. I tend to wait until a new version comes out and then I buy the discounted old one. LOL
