Forget the Mac cupcakes, I need a new nano! Steve Jobs is making his big announcements about upcoming Apple products at San Francisco's Moscone Center as I type. Engadget is blogging live if you want to check out a full transcript, but the first major announcements are a new lineup of shuffle colors, which will be available in time for the holidays, a PRODUCT (RED) nano, new nano with video capabilities and a new 160GB iPod, which is smaller than the original iPod and puts 40k songs in your pocket.
"We are adding a RED shuffle — if you want to do something about these diseases in Africa," Engadget quotes Steve Jobs as saying. "Same 1GB of storage, $79, shipping today, available shortly. Now let's move on to something more substantial, the iPod nano. It's incredibly tiny, this is the new nano, it's incredibly thin. It's REALLY nice." The new nano will come in what Jobs calls "beautiful colors," have a larger 2-inch screen and will play video. The new iPod will come in 80 and 160 GB, and will cost $250 and $350 respectively. Apple will also release 8GB and 16GB iPod Touch devices, which are much like the iPhone.

1Im waiting on the Ipod touch. Im not dropping $400 so I can actually put all my songs on it. the 8gb won't do. 16gb barely does it. maybe in a year.
2the "classic" ipods are finally within reach. the ipod touch is a great idea, but at $400 for just 16 gb, that's too much. a good idea...i'll do a classic one for now and in a few years when the ipod touch is updated, i'll think about it.
3Man Apple SUCKS. Why do they always come out with new and better versions so quickly. I bought the new apple shuffle right after it came out when they only had silver to choose from and now they have all these amazing colors and I am stuck with silver. I also bought a new 30gb ipod this summer and if I had known there was going to be an ipod touch I would have waited.

6KazaGirl. I just got a new Ipod on July. I knew about the new ipod coming out and saw pictures before I got my new one. Its not worth it to get the ipod touch. $400 for 16gb doesn't do a body good. at least give me 20! honestly how much bigger (physically) is a 20gb hd?
7Yea 16gb does seem a bit small and expensive. I will probably wait until after the price drops or at least until they make an ipod touch with more gb. I just got so excited when I heard about the wifi.
8I'm sad the iPhone dropped $200 in price today. I've had mine for a little over a month! The new iPods all look great but I love my simple little product (red) Nano!
9Oh I want an iPod touch. I would be fine with an 8g. I'm suprised they dropped the price so much and so quickly on the iPhone. Also I don't really like the new nanos. They look weird to me.
10Well I have my 30g Ipod Video and I am sticking with it! It does kinda suck though how they suddenly have so many new cool features and colors. I wonder what ppl will do with their old Ipods if they get a newer one? Ipod graveyard anyone?

14I don't really like the new colors except for the purple one (only b/c purple is my fave color). Apple has to stop upgrading their iPods every 5 seconds. *sigh*

20bleh, anyone else sick of all the apple hype. I had an ipod, which was great a couple years ago but I think the itunes interface is awkward and I hate the fact that you can't take music off your ipod with a major headache.
21have now switched to a creative zen. what is lacks in capacity (only 8 gbs), it makes up for in ease of use. ipods are also terribly overpriced.

glad i didn't get the nano yet. But I like the old design better and I don't care about the screen because i use it for working out. Also... the colors kinda suck! What is this, the 90's? ick.. they should have mixed it up a bit.
Now i have to decide if $50 cheaper is worth the fugly new look. I will have to see it in person to decide.

31the new lineup is so great - what to choose?! realistically, i'll have my 30gb video ipod for a few more years, i'm sure. i still have my old shuffle as back up and if i want to transfer files or whatever.
32apple is being a little greedy here, instead of implementing more storage on the ipod shuffle they just add new colors, i mean what is that? i'm so sick of apple. the constant ipod updates have become just a status symbol, simply a trendy and stylish device, and we all know trends and styles come and go. i for one am done, i'm tired and pissed off by there constant upgrading, my wallet cant keep up. why can't they be like video game consoles who actually spend more then a year trying to come up with something worth the hefty price tag!

34I'm just meh about the colors, I'm a fan of the blue used for the last generation, I like vivid colors over pastels any day.
35i just got the 'phatty' today. it's a pretty sweet machine if you ask me. and well it is cute. i got the black one. they didnt have them on display but i asked the guy 'when will they be in' and he was all 'oh we have them in stock, just get in line'
36Holy crap, these new nanos are too ugly to be true! I totally thought it was one of those internet jokes when I saw the prototypes a week ago. I can't believe they're real! LMAO.

39I wont be buying anything from Apple, ever again. I went to an Apple store last night and had the WORST customer service experience EVER. After noboy offered to help us for the first 1/2 hour that we browsed the store, lingering over the iphone, we went and stood in the line where one would stand to make a cash purchase. After standing in this line for a while a customer service rep changed the sign in the window to say "Iphones are not available today." Then he proceeded to tell the 5 people in line waiting to buy the iphones that they were sold out.
40I asked for a manager and explained that I called the store just an hour before I arrived there and was told to come in anytime before closing to purchase one and that they had "plenty" in stock. The manager went to the back and pulled out two new iphones, one for myself and one for the other guy that stuck around to talk to a manager.
The manager had no reasoning for why she had just sent the customer service rep to lie to all of the customers anxiously waiting for the phones. All she said was, "Sorry about that."
I chose not to buy the iphone, nor will I buy another ipod. Im sure Apple won't miss my business, but I wont support a company that is going to treat customers that poorly.
