Eight years ago today, Apple announced the first iPod — what you may recognize now as a 5G clunky gadget with a click wheel. The original iPod held 1,000 songs and weighed 6.5 ounces (current iPod classics hold 40,000 songs and weigh just under five ounces).
In the past eight years, the iPod has seen many changes — it's kind of unbelievable that now a tiny shuffle can hold nearly as much music as the original!

honestly, i've never felt the need to carry around that much music with me, even though I LOVE music.

6my first one is 7 or 8 years old...and it still amazes me how my gen one ipod STILL WORKS when i plug it in occasionally =)

7I never had one until I got my iPhone this year. Bought my son one in 2006 that he still uses.
8My first was a blue first gen iPod Mini. That stopped working so I got a black video iPod, I think it was the first generation of video ipods? Then I bought a shuffle in January of this year, and my iPhone in April. Love it all. =)
9my first ipod was the 2nd generation with those glowing red buttons. i was the 3rd kid in my high school to have one. i've been a geek through and through for a while now

Ipod shuffle first gen. and i still have it. I love it..but im going to upgrade soon to a nano so that I can actually see the songs and video. But, I only use it for running and working out.

13I got my first iPod eight years ago today. My boyfriend worked for Apple at the time and he bought me one as an early anniversary present. I don't think I appreciated how much I was going to love it until a bit later. It was a lot of work uploading all of my CD's into my laptop, and at that time you had to manually put the names of the songs in.
14Since then I have had Gen 1 (5G), Gen 1 (10G) a gift from Apple for crashing the hard drive on my laptop, Gen 2 (20G), Gen 3 (40G), Gen 4 Photo (60G), and the Gen 5 (60G) that I purchased twice after one of them fell into a crack in an 800 year old building in Italy and was lost forever.
Since then I haven't upgraded since my iPOd now pretty much lives in my glove compartment and I use the iPhone for watching movies and listening to music when I'm out without the car.
I have also purchased the Gen 5 Nano for a few friends as Christmas and Birthday gifts.
My first iPod was a 32GB Pod Touch 2G Christmas 2008. I never wanted to have an iPod of ANY type, but the Touch 2G hit a cord with my inner geek and I just couldn't resist asking Santa for one. Now I want a 64GB i Touch 3G...

A friend on mine came to visit me and she had the first gen nano. I fell in love. I got one about 6 months later. I got a 3rd gen nano a about 2 years ago maybe I can't remember. I'll probably upgrade to a iPod touch or a iPod classic in the next year or so.
17I bought a 60gb? ipod classic about a year and a half ago. Before that I had a few different mp3 players but i like they ipod best.

21I got my first one in 2004 I believe. It was the U2 black and red edition. Since then I have bought another regular sized ipod (white) in 2008 and then I also have an ipod shuffle (silver) for exercising.
22I can't remember what year it was (04, maybe?) but I won my first beloved iPod from Jane magazine. I gave it to my dad after buying a video iPod in early '06. (it still works!) Now I have a little blue shuffle and an iPhone.
23i was a sophomore in high school when my dad got me the 5G ipod. i remember breaking it out during class and everyone asking me what the heck it was! since then i've had the 2nd gen nano.. and no i've got the iphone..

29I got my 3rd gen nano almost two years ago. Works great and I like the way it looks over the newer nano's. Someday I'll probably get an iphone.

then in 8th grade (2008) i bought an iPod touch because I couldn't afford the iPhone on my own. A few months later however, I got the iPhone for my birthday and sold my touch.
I have now sold my mini, nano, and touch to family members whose iPods had broken down on them or they wanted a backup and i use the iPod video and my iPhone as my main iPods.
I have never owned an iPod. I have owned several MP3 players, but never an iPod because I need my player to have a radio.
