Considering the fact that I can barely get a Wi-Fi signal outside my apartment, I was shocked to learn that a 5GHz Wi-Fi transmission distance was actually maintained between Italy and Sardinia — a distance of 188.89 miles. This new world record Wi-Fi connection, which was achieved by the Italian Center for Radio Activities and Ubiquiti Networks, was maintained with a 5Mbps transfer rate using some nifty gadgets and trinkets. Now all we need to do is wait for an announcement saying there will be a free Wi-Fi blanket nationwide courtesy of Google — naturally!via gizmag

This is good news. I can't wait for widespread Wi-Fi networks. San Francisco keeps fumbling the ball on the bay area Wi-Fi network. I really wish this was more of a priority. Wi-Fi should be like air--free and everywhere.
1That is so awesome. I wish I could access wireless as easily. I live in the only building on capus w/out wireless! Ugh!
2For all the talk of how bad WiFi can potentially be... I bet that one is a doozy. Awesome though!
3wow~
4i can't wait for free wi fi worldwide
5very cool. i keep my fingers crossed for more free wi-fi in the future!
