We here at geeksugar hate spreading rumors, but this one is so rampant we're gonna feel like goons if we don't at least mention it and it actually happens a few weeks down the pipeline. According to our friends at Switched, analysts are expecting a refreshed iPod to drop next month. Of course, everyone hopes it will feature a touchscreen shiny like the one on the iPhone. In fact, Apple Insider is reporting that we can expect an update of both the iPod and the iPod Nano.

Among the expected introductions are higher capacity iPod nanos at aggressive price points, as well as a flash based widescreen video iPod likely using multi-touch technology for less than $300.
Could it be true? Sites like Engadget have gone so far as to warn readers not to buy an iPod for a while. Of course, only time or Steve Jobs will tell.

It's been a rumor for a while...im sorta excited there's now a time frame for this...I only have a nano and an ipod widescreen with more function would really be nice...that'll be the only way I would spend $300+tax on an ipod.
1If this is true...Shoot! I just got a white video ipod w/ 30 GB in June. While I LOVE my new ipod this sounds even cooler! Oh well, I'm just ranting; I won't waste money on another ipod until this one goes.

6EVERY time I buy an IPod I get screwed. My daughter's is a 1st gen nano, then they added color and doubled the capacity for the same price. THEN my son's shuffle was a 2nd gen BEFORE they added color. My boyfriend's was JUST bought!
7I've had 2 nanos and 2 video iPods and all of them died so that kind of spoiled the iPod craze for me. My sister purchased a Zune and after I played around with it I was a little ashamed when I had to admit to myself that if I buy another mp3 player it would probably still be an iPod.

12I saw an artist rendition on the new ipod at ilounge.com. It is wider than the original. I am looking forward to getting a new ipod. Wonder when they will be out.

14i heard these are coming out in september, conveniently before my october birthday. my almost two years old original nano has been spazzing out lately, so hopefully it will last until then.
15I love Apple, I have a macbook pro and a 5G ipod. They're so secretive and are very good at keeping new products and product updates 'under wraps' until their officially ready for a release. With that said, I find that many of the rumours have alot of validity to them. We soon shall see
