I use my iPhone for most things — scheduling, phone calls, photos, email — but one old-school goody I won't give up is my Moleskine day planner. No matter how many calendar entries I keep in my iPhone, I like to have an on-paper record of my schedule, too. Then this happened:
I was running late for a connecting flight and grabbed a bottle of water at an airport newsstand before racing to the gate. As I stood in the aisle waiting to take my seat, I felt the dreaded drip-drip-drip that could only be one thing: an open bottle of water in my messenger bag. The same bag carrying my iPhone, laptop computer, camera, planner, and various chargers.
As soon as I got to my seat I pulled all of the gadgets out of my bag and frantically dried them with napkins, paper towels, my scarf, anything I could get my hands on. Luckily there was only one casualty — my treasured daily planner was full of water. The ink was smudged, pages stuck together. Even after drying out, it turned into a mess of warped pages and smudges.
You've shared stories of saving water-damaged phones, and I'm thankful my gadgets made it out alive. But I can't help but lament that the one essential non-tech item in my bag was the first to go.
Do you use gadgets in most of your day-to-day life, or do you have any old-school habits you won't let tech replace? What are they?

I have to agree with you on the Moleskine. Although for me it's not the planner it's the journals. Yes, I carry my laptop with me pretty much everywhere, but for me, there is nothing like putting pen to paper.
1I have a Moleskin planner too. I love my iPhone to bits and use it for pretty much everything except the calendar - one time I connected it to my computer and for some reason, I lost absolutely everything on both iCal and the iPhone calendar when they synced. I assume it was down to my sync settings but I don't want to chance it happening again, hence the paper records
2I use and love my record player, my daily planner and playing solitaire with actual cards
Do DVDs count, too? As opposed to keeping movies on a harddrive?
3I used to be like that and only put my calender in the planner. That changed last year when I was in IT which was a very BB/outlook heavy workplace, and I am comfortable with having it on the iphone now.
My old-school habit would be my handwritten to-do/shopping lists. I just can't break it!
4I can't live without my Moleskine Day Planner! Love having my dates, notes, reminders, lists all in one happy little package!
5I know everyone has all their music on iPods, but there are car rides and moments when all I want to do is listen to music on a CD
6ive got two jobs its easier to write everything out on a giant desk calendar my bf keeps telling me my phone does the same thing. no sir no
7Wow. I feel like I wrote this entry. iPhone lover and keeper of a Moleskin planner.
8i LOVE my Moleskine!!!
9I like to use a written to-do list-calendar combo at work. I make my own using a Moleskine and Sharpie Pen, because I haven't found one with a template that works for me. Tres Geek!
10I still keep my to do lists and grocery lists on paper and we have a paper calendar at home for the family.
11I like to make weekly to-do lists::

I write everything down in a planner (calendar, needs list, things to do, etc) and I keep an Outlook calendar for work. I really want to get a smart phone or some device that I can do everything with.
13I'm a little old school, mostly because I'm old, but there are few things that tech can't wrestle out of me: 1)my dayplanner, 2)actual paper books (my favorite room in my house is my personal library), 3)my landline phone (it makes me feel grounded and doesn't need recharging), 4)CDs/tapes/LPs - yeah my Ipod has 8,000 songs on it and I don't leave home without it, but there is something sexy about putting your hands on the product and the medium of your music and reading the cover art, and, 5)my VHS tapes - why abandon them when they have served me for so long? I simply refuse to shell out hundreds of dollars replacing my old faves on tape. To be honest, nothing (not DVR or DVD-R) has replaced the functionality of the VCR. Sigh.
14I'm the same with the notebook. I like to have a physical notebook / planner to write stuff down in. Rarely do I use for blackberry for that stuff. In fact, I only enter it in my blackberry also if it's something REALLY important so I can set an alarm to it to help me remember
15I am so old fashioned even though I have a BB and other tech gadgets. I LOVE to WRITE LETTERS instead of EMAILS. Especially on my pretty Hello Kitty stationary.
16love write in letter to send to my friends, specially because the live in another country crossing the ocean, i think is a nice surprise
