Last week, Sony announced they have developed a "highly efficient" wireless power transfer system. Meaning that soon you can purchase a Sony TV without a power cord! The technology is based on magnetic resonance, meaning that electromagnetic energy will be transferred between a transmitter unit and the device. Currently, the transfer can occur at a distance of about two feet.
Similar technology already exists in Dell's new Latitude Z notebook computers that charge without wires. When this sort of technology was first announced in 2007 by a team of researchers at MIT, 74 percent of you said you were into the idea.
Sony hasn't set a release date for gadgets containing the new technology, but the thought of wall-mounting a completely wireless TV is pretty exciting!

I can't wait til the Dell wireless laptop becomes affordable...charging mine is such a hassle right now. Plus the new ones are super-cute!

2what about harmful energy/radiation? Seems like a lot more chance of it with this than wi-fi or radio...
3And then there's all the interference, both from and to the source of power. I can just imagine a CB'ers voice causing flickering on my TV; or better yet the FCC getting involved because the source causes all the medical implants to go haywire.
4The tech used in the Dell is quite different from that developed by MIT. It was developed by Fulton Innovation and has been used in a commercial product for nearly a decade, Amway's eSpring water treatment system.
