Given the widespread fears of WiFi's potential health risks, the fact that laptops have a tendency to overheat when placed on non-linear surfaces and studies that show hot laptops can cause infertility in men it's paramount that you invest in a laptop stand.
We're all guilty of the laptop in the lap offense - it's called laptop for a reason, right? Whether you find yourself sitting in front of the TV with your laptop or you like to curl up under the covers while cruising the web you can protect yourself with a simple stand that keeps your laptop's fan circulating and keeps the device off your body and away from your sensitive body parts. (Seriously, the laptop burn stories are not pretty!)
I use a small "breakfast in bed" tray disguised as a laptop table that I got at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It's light, portable and big enough for me to rest my laptop, magazines and drink on. Check out a selection of my favorite stand options below.

I burn myself from my Macbook Pro a few month's ago. I contacted Steve job's email got a response. My laptop was shipped to be looked at turns out the two fans died and i had no idea! which made the heat issue very bad. Since i got it back its fine i also invested in ilap. I think laptop stands are a great idea and very useful and safe!!
1Tip: Having your keyboard tilted towards you is very bad for your wrists, and can be a factor in the development of carpal tunnel syndrome. The healthiest position to type in is with the keyboard tilted slightly away from you.
2Wow I should invest in one after reading your comment, Macmeggy, because I have a MacBook Pro as well. I can't believe the fans died! Also, I think your tip, Minikin, is important to know. My sister is studying PT and she warns me about that stuff all the time. It's good to know.
FYI, I think there is a Mac Widget that shows how fast your fans are running.
3I Love The Idea!!!
