I gotta give it to Leica, they sure know how to make drool-worthy cameras! The Leica M9 was revealed this week, and not only does this bad boy shoot full 35MM quality in high-resolution digital format, but it's got intuitive controls, and comes with a license for Adobe Lightroom so you can snap and edit right out of the box. Plus, it's small and compact so you can take it anywhere, and don't even get me started on the picture quality. The catch? This camera will set you back over $8,000. Yes, that's an eight with three zeros.
I've been known to splurge on a gadget that I really want a time or two (or three or four), but spending nearly 10 grand on a digital camera (that's marketed as a "prosumer" by the way) seems a little much for my novice pocket. How much are you willing to throw down for the gadget of your dreams?

1Obviously it depends on the gadget--something like a TV is more likely to last longer, and thus I'd be willing to spend a bit more on it than something that'll be obsolete in a year.
2That said, I avoid spending on tech whenever possible, despite my drooling.
My limit for regular small gadgets (camera's, phones, DS) is under $200. TV's and laptops I try for under $700. I don't think I've ever spent more than that.
3I have a digital Leica camera and love it but this is well out of my price range.

6If I could afford it I would do it. The Leica brand is like owning a Ferrari, it is the ultimate in cameras. I am actually saving up to get the Leica 8.2 which is running in the $6000 price range, and that's just for the body, no lenses, with a lens it comes in around the $8000. Here's the thing you have to consider though. If you are a pro photographer then $8000 is not a lot for a camera. There are lenses in the Canon family that run higher than that. There is no way someone who doesn't know photography should even think about is as the Leica M lines are range finder cameras, not point and shoots. A huge difference. If you are in the market for a point and shoot and are interested in the Leica brand then go for something along the lines of the D-Lux line as they are point and shoots, take amazing shots, and run under $1000.
7Although like the Ferrari there are people who will buy one just to walk around with the thing hanging from their neck so they can show the world that they can afford the Leica. It was a huge thing a few years ago when Leica released the M8 for people to wander around with the camera asa really expensive necklace.
