For years, Firefox has been one of the most stable, trustworthy, and reliable browsers I had ever met. So much so, that I've kind of gotten attached to the guy and settled in for what was expected to be a productive, long-term relationship. That was, until the latest update hit.
What came next was crashes, news of crazy security loopholes, and bugs. And I'm not the only one. Half of Sugar HQ is experiencing the same problems, which leads me to believe that Firefox is becoming the bad boyfriend we all hate: running around on us behind our backs, without ever giving us any satisfaction. Firefox even had the nerve to disappear and leave BuzzSugar a lame "failure-to-restore" message, and then blamed the website she was on for the problem — the nerve!
So I'm sending my once trusty Firefox a message on behalf of all of us that are experiencing the same erratic and sketchy issues: let's work this out. I didn't want to have to say this, but I'll go back to Safari if this behavior continues. You've been warned.

I use Firefox for web design because of its add-ons, but I use Google Chrome for everything else. Its so fast and bug-free!
http://www.google.com/chrome
1I started thinking that it was all my fault and I started blaming my computer. Wow, that does actually sound like a really bad relationship!
2Switch to google's chrome. I've been using it for a couple months and it works great!!!
3i love firefox but i've been experiencing a lot of crashes too.
4also sometimes my 'enter' key doesn't work.
google chrome i'm not a fan of though- spying on everything i do!
I used chrome for a few weeks and really liked it, but it handled rss/atom feed adding poorly. Firefox detects them and easily lets me add them to google reader or live bookmarks, but chrome didn't seem to know what to do with them at all and just gave me the raw xml code when I clicked on an rss link, let alone autodetecting if a site had a feed.
But once chrome can do that, I will be very tempted to switch, it was quicker and used much less memory, and never crashed like FF does lately.
5Safari has really improved in the last few updates, I broke up with Firefox a while ago
6I have been getting that same message the last little while. I've also been getting a lot of crashes too! I thought it was the computer because my fast new computer is currently broken (thanks Vista) and I am using my old one. Guess I should stop blaming the old clunker. Perhaps I should add Google Chrome on to it and see if that works better.
7Oh I could also go get off my lazy butt and get my nice new computer fixed too. Whatever! LOL
After years of swearing by firefox, I've now switched over to safari, I tried chrome, the speed was great, but felt it was lacking in features.
Safari is just as fast as chrome in my opinion, and it's a great balance between performance and features
8Oh no! I just downloaded the update
9I've had the opposite experience... Firefox crashed all the time before this update, but now I'm not having much trouble with it at all. *shrug*
10Happy to hear I'm not the only one having problems with Firefox (specifically on my Macbook Pro). I just said this morning that I might need to downgrade Firefox
.
11I switched to Chrome a few months ago. I really like it.
12I'm a Safari-girl... But I have Firefox anyway because not every website works great with Safari. I like Camino too, and I am waiting for the official first version of Chrome for Apple.
13i love chrome! works the best, has spell checker, and if you need to google something, you can do it from your browser, which i LOVE!!!
14Google Chrome > Firefox
15This just happened to me the other day! I'm glad I'm not alone in this sad, sad relationship!
16to everyone having crashing issues: blame the addons - I didn't update any of mine on my PC, and no crashes yet. my Mac doesnt have any addons and all is fine on there too.
17i've been ignoring the download update message for a few days and i'm glad i have!
18Wow thank you SO much for this post, I was starting to worry about my PC! Good to know it's stupid Firefox. It keeps dlding new updates, I think it's becoming a much heavier programme, and lately it's been crashing about twice a day since I've spent my week working on my laptop all day long.
I'm tempted to try Google Chrome, but what's that thing about it spying on my activities?
19Gurrrls what about opera? I
20oops made a heart symbol looks like these comment boxes hate them. anyway, it's a great browser and has lots of features and has never crashed on me. try opera today!
21Thank you for this post! Now I can show my Hubby that "NO...it is not because I have too many tabs open! It is happening to everybody!" Well maybe not everybody but he doesn't need to know that. Mine has been crashing at least 2x a day since the update and today it couldn't recover ANY of my tabs!!! Ughh...I am so upset. Might have to go back to Safari but I have loved my FireFox. So sad.
22revert to the previous install that worked for you until these bugs are worked out.
23WOW I seriously thought i was alone. I've been using chrome for a while now. I love it, thought it's a bit too simple for me... other then that... pure love
24I had to downgrade a few updates ago and will not be updating again until I'm sure the bugs are gone.
25Every negative comment regarding Firefox is absolutely true! I've personally used Firefox since its inception, and used to swear by it. Especially, in comparison to Internet Explorer. That's all about to change now. It appears that the "Mozilla Project" needs a complete overall! These repetitive "updates" are only *not* working, but indeed making matters worse. The reason why I am convinced that it's strictly a Firefox issue, and not a *system* problem, is because I work with many computers in my profession, and the issues repeat themselves on each and every one. What a pity. The Mozilla folks need to take heed before people begin abandoning this once terrific browser by the multitudes. Wake up Mozilla and carefully examine the handwriting on the wall...
26Yea.. I love FF for the add-ons... but the crashing is so irritating.
27This post saved my life! Okay maybe I'm being dramatic, but Firefox has pretty much become unusable on my mac. As an avid Firefox fan, I hate to admit that I've gotten back with my ex - Safari and my quality of life is much improved (yay!).
ps - I'm sorry I blamed you macbook, it's not your fault.
28Do any of the other browser programs you guys have mentioned save your tabs the way FF does? If so I will switch to which ever one does - since that is probably my favorite part of FF - being the site-hopper (ADD Anybody?) that I am I can never remember what it was I was looking at or what site it was on - so the saved tabs was a gift! Help!!!
