When Molly noticed Scarlett Johansson has been working both in front and behind the camera for an untitled Woody Allen movie in Barcelona, I wondered what kind of camera the starlet has been using.
My investigation team - made up of camera geek YumSugar and myself - concluded that it must be the uber chic Leica M8.
The model, which is a digital version of the company's famous M camera, was recently released in Europe and is sold in silver and black. It is known for using the analog Leica M system for sophisticated and creative digital photography and features a low-noise CCD image sensor with a resolution of 10.3 megapixels that has been specifically matched to the compact lens design.
Clearly, professional cameras come with a hefty price tag. This one costs $4,795 on Amazon.

That's awesome! it has such a classic style to it. I would love to mess around with it. However, it wouldn't be worth buying to me.
1OK, the cam looks retro and the price says it all about quality, but what's with the yellowish hair?
2Accident or is this intentional?
Cha! Yellow is so in, look at my picture...it's all about yellow hair now

4HAHAHHAHA I see
5And dark eybrows and yellow hair is uber IN also?
Just like Rachel Taylor in Transformers...she is one hip australian but that bugged me the WHOLE movie. My eyebrows going darker is the only thing that's stopped me from going back to blonde.
6Leica's are, from what I've gathered, pretty highly overrated. I don't know enough about them but I will say that you can get a digital SLR for pretty cheap these days --- Nikon's D40 set-up is going for about $500, on par with Canon's Rebel XT.
7I'm agreeing with steen. I DO like the look of the M8, though...very classic. But the price tag isn't really worth the look of the camera. I'd defnitely go with a Nikon D40 before I go with the M8.
8I wish I *had* a camera. I'm too broke to get one
9if you look at other photos on the internet, you can see that she's actually using a leica m6 "classic" (pre-m6 ttl). on eBay they go for about $1300 in mint condition. +1 for shooting film.
10I'd love to have a camera like that, but don't happen to have 5 grand lying around, so, I'll stick with my Sony A200.
11Hmm, as a Leica M8 owner, that looks like a Leica M6 to me. If you look closely at the top, you can see the shutter is offset further inside. That’s to leave room for the exposure counter.
BTW, it’s not an either-or thing. People who have Leica M also have digicams and dSLRs. Rangefinders are a different class of camera from those.
