Trying to keep your keyboard free of dust balls, spills, and crumbs is practically impossible. I've already provided some tips on how to clean your keyboard and deal with keyboard spills. However, if you don't want to be bothered with spot-cleaning your keyboard, Sonnet has created a silicone keyboard cover for Apple keyboards and Apple wireless keyboards that is thin and flexible enough to type on.
These covers, which I spotted on Gadgetress, will help to repel the dust and prevent any spill damage. Once the cover needs to be cleaned, all you have to do is wash them with some soap and water. Priced at $20. I think I'd use one to cover my keyboard with when I'm not around, but I don't think I'd like the feel of it when I'm typing.

I had a silicone cover custom made for my keyboard because my sister had a million cats that liked to climb all over my computer desk, and the feel of it didn't bother me at all. Plus, the click clackin of my nails didn't make as much noise with the cover. Still, a great investment for petless people who, like myself, like to eat at the computer.
PS. there are officially no more cats in my house anymore, yay, just one overexcited pug!
1I need that!!!!
2oo that's my laptop on the left. i try not to eat over my keyboard, works real well. and it's free too.
3Yuck! Tacky!
4i think i'd use one when i wasn't using my computer as there's a lot of dust about, more than to prevent food spillage (i sometimes eat around my computer but i'm really more concerned about DRINKING in front of lappy).
5OMG we had these in high school! lol
6I have a different one for my MacBook Pro... iSkin I think. I actually love it. I like typing with it more, it makes the keys quieter, and it has a soft touch. Great for lecture classes. Nothing at all like the old plastic ones in libraries. However, if you close your laptop with it on, it transfers finger oils to the screen which are a pain to clean off (but do-able)
7i'm sitting here thinking, "this is new how?" because when i was little and my parents had an old tandy computer, it had a keyboard cover. it actually felt really cool. and i'm pretty sure we kept the cover until we got a computer with a modem (so 1997).
8Would love to have it, but the price for a piece of silicon shouldn't be over $10.
Then again, ok, they have to earn something
And big LOL
to the iSkin name that Saaralynne mentioned!
9Who eats at their computer like that? It's freaking me out.
10ew eating while typing, talk about germs.
11iSkin actually makes nice rubbery iPod cases as well. They are a good company http://www.iskin.com/ The iSkin silicone covers come in cute colors like blue and pink. They are super soft and solve that problem with dirt on your white keyboard (it doesn't matter how much you wash your hands they just get filthy).
As a tech I can't even tell you how many machines I come across where people don't only eat around their keyboards, I swear they eat on them. There is nothing grosser than picking up a white apple keyboard and seeing crumbs floating around the clear bottom. Oh I think I just threw up a little...
12i use this on my laptop and it is soooooo good..and clean..i wanna get the similar cover for the mouse pad area too
13I need to get one for my Macbook Pro i got ilap not long ago i love it!
14finally my computer can protect itself from me.
15Um, I think taking the time to eat ten inches away from the computer is a better idea altogether. Ha.
16we also had tghe old key board covers but thye were more hard this looks softer..you can type whilest its on would be greta..i spilled water on the keyboard and it got messed up.
17We used these in school too. They get disgusting and dirty, so make sure to clean the thing off with a Clorox wipe or something once in a while.
18i need something like this! it is far too late for my keyboard though... and my laptop, oh man that is another story. i leave it in the kitchen when i'm cooking, it's such a mess...
