When it comes to advertising and marketing there's no one recipe that satiates and titillates all cultures and what works in one country can come off as crude, confusing or darn right silly in another. The British "Mac or PC" ads, which are similar to those aired in the US but laced with British humor, were called "too smug" and reportedly made Apple a "less favorable" company with the UK public. So what does that difference in cultural subtitles look like in other countries? Our resident geek spy chuger snapped this photo of an LG ad, which features retro doll-like characters chatting on their phones, in a shopping mall in Korea. The campaign is a world away from this recent American LG ad, which features simple phones and very little "story." Which do you prefer?

I would love to have this new Apple iPhone. The technology is suppose to be really great.
1Those Mac commercials ARE smug.
2The pictures look a little odd. But humour does sell stuff.
3Would never buy LG or Samsung. I just don't believe in quality of Korean companies and I don't like their design at all... Its not as I did not try, I run computer and electronic shop and I can tell you Koreans sell us terrible products. I will stick with Japanese, European an US products
4I like it. it's different and catches your eye. i would for sure pay more attention to that ad than just a normal plain cell phone ad. plus, with a little american touch, i'm sure it could work out here.

6Weird commercial content, I guess its different for someone that understands what it says there. Performita, if Koreans sold terrible products, then I don't know why Samsung is listed and known as one of top quality electronics makers. Not the best thing to say if you don't know if there are Koreans in Sugar community.
7those pictures are from a Japanese show called "Hey Mikey"
8I like the Korean ad way more. The American version is so stright and boring.
And I can not stand the Mac or PC ads, they really, really get to me...smug is the right word.
9shini, I am sorry, I have nothing against Korean people or country, its just the products don't meet with my personal taste in quality and design. I am so sorry if I offend you or anyone.
10The show "Hey Mikey" that LauraPalmer posted about is called "The Fuccons" here in the U.S. It's characters are mannequins... Japan, at least, is a lot more obsessive over characters/idols than America, which goes for a more showcase-y marketing technique.
