The Pre, Palm's latest smartphone, is a pretty cool phone, with its attractive exterior and sleek OS, but its ads are another story. Where the first commercial featuring actress Tamara Hope was pretty epic, with a serene Buddhist scene, the most recent ads are a bit mind-boggling. In one, Hope talks of going with the flow, and more bizarrely, she admits that the Pre can do something cooler than let her read her email: it reads her mind.
I'm a little weirded out. But maybe I'm just used to my cell phone ads incorporating some catchy pop song and knee-jerk editing and I need to slow down and appreciate Hope's Zen-like attitude about her phone. What do you think of the ads?

Preen
Kookai
Bourjois
these are both very, very creepy...
1OMIGAWD!!! i hate them soo much i think she's super creepy and they played constantly during Torchwood: Children of Earth ... thank god it was DVR and i could FWD through them.
2*crawling skin*
Ugh. I really hate these commercials too. (Along with the Verizon "OMG my phone isn't working!" commercials and the Progressive commercials.)
3I'm not gonna lie... I have the pre and it's an amazing phone. But these commercials do nothing for it. Show how awesome it is! Show people all the great features they can have on sprint with the pre for $99!!
*sigh* but I guess palm is thinking bad publicity, good publicity, it's publicity. The sprint commercials are sooo much better.
Either way, awesome phone guys. Check it out!
4I've always ignored those ads, but last one I actually paid attention to one the whole way through, and it totally creeped me out.
5She looks oddly like the Borg Queen, really... That, and she's talking about technology that can read her mind, with that very odd serene yet dangerous quality... Uhh, yeah, creepy.
6I think the ads are WONDERFUL! Whenever she comes on I stop what I am doing to watch. Like a renaissance painting come to life, these ads distinguish themselves from the pack.
7I really liked the first one, it gave me chills and I thought about it a lot afterward, which is always good for a commercial.
The other ones since then... not so much. I feel like I can never understand what she's saying, and the imagery is really weird.
Hit and miss, I guess!
8Bloody creepy. I had a normal, if not slightly exalted, opinion of the Pre, comprised mainly as the first worthy competition for the iPhone. After the ad campaign was rolled out (especially the long-form one), I suddenly felt as if I would be joining a cult if I bought a Pre and should be wary if a Sprint retailer ever offered me Kool-aid. The short-form ad is irritating to me a bit as well as it's clearly doubling as an ad for Bing (who the ef says 'bing' whenever a light turns green?). The campaign might work for West-coast type new-agers, but for most grounded in reality, I doubt blaring music you'd hear at a spa retreat showing video of Microsoft desktop background images and a woman with a suspiciously tranquil voice using her phone on a rock in a meadow in the middle of a circle comprised of dozens of scientologists would work well for anyone else. I'll hold out for a second generation Android phone.
9I am so glad that I am not the only one that thinks these ads are creepy, creepy, creepy! Why does she turn her back to us? What's with the dead-eyed stare as she half-whispers about her phone? Blargh. I really can't wait till they go away...
10Awful.....Plain & Simple Show what the phone can do ...!
11I read an article in the NYT that talked about having no eyebrows being the new fashion thing. I laughed at how it would never catch on. Now that I see this commercial, I'm worried about what I will see on the subway in the coming months.
12I guess they figure that the iPhone sold so well, the only people left to market to are the meth-addict/weirdo segment of the buying public.
Simply the worst ads ever. The Pre looks kinda neat, so, hopefully, Palm will wise up soon and dump this campaign for one that makes sense.
13I think the Palm Pre girl is unbelieveably beautiful, and extremely desirable. Maybe it's just my Scotch /Irish heritage or something , but I can't get enough of her. Unusual ? I hope so ! I'm so friggin sick of of the 99% of women on TV that consist of a bunch of hip hop, tarted up wh*res and "people of color" that this naturally beautiful "white girl" is like a breath of fresh air. Thanks Palm. Thanks Tamara.
14Who is she? My boyfriend is so creeped out by her every time he sees this ahha
15I hate these commercials so bad they make me turn my tv off.
They annoy me for some reason so bad - I hate the music, I hate the way the girl looks, I hate the lighting, I hate the DaVinci look and classical looks combined with the techno when that crap starts - I JUST HATE THEM. GET THEM OFF MY TV
