9:45 am PST: The line in front of the downtown San Francisco Apple store has grown considerably since yesterday evening, when there were only four groups camped out. In fact, there are roughly 80 people who have set up shop on the sidewalk for what looks to be a long, foggy day in the Bay Area. The line at a neighboring AT&T store, where the phone is also being released, is, well, pretty sparse at the moment. Both the AT&T and Apple stores will release the iPhone at 6 pm tonight (local time). I was pleased to see more female representation among the crowd this morning, with about 30 or so women bundled up amid the campers. The crowd in front of the Apple store is passing the time listening to their iPods, playing with their laptops (Macs, of course), waging in fierce Battleship games and being amused by the troupe of clowns.

I want one but I am waiting for a short time. I don't handle lines too well plus I am due for a upgrade in a few months!
1if i had the money at the time i would have gotten the blackberry 8830 on the second it got released... so i feel for the people. yet, i don't think i'd go to the star-wars-movie-release-length of actually camping out.
all i know is that my friend was sooooo pissed that she heard ALL apple employees get a free iphone.
2People people people....When do you ever buy the first release of anything electronic that comes out? they ALWAYS have bugs and problems. Just wait until the second release. The price will go down, and there will be upgrades.
3i agree skinny marie...
the lines here in los angeles are nuts..i was watching the news and the apple store in NYC has crazy lines..i want the phone too but probably would become impatient..
4i seriously don't care about iphone launch...I won't stand 3 minutes in line for it.
5standing in line looks like an adventure.
