On Tuesday, Google announced the launch of its new Chrome OS, which will be available for consumers next year.
Google's operating system will compete with OS X, Windows, and Linux, and promises to be open source and lightweight. Google says that it will first come to netbooks, and if it's as quick as the "lightweight" term promises, you can bet I'll be getting my hands on it as soon as I can.
Naturally, that's mostly due to my curiosity, rather than an unhappiness with OS X, which is what I'm running now.
Are you going to switch over to Chrome OS when you can?

I'll use it in my mac with bootcamp, just to try it! I am so excited about it!
1I would play around with it but being an Apple girl it isn't anything I would really need.
2i am super excited to try this! i love chrome, and i can't imagine i wouldn't love more of the same lightweight awesomeness.
3Can't wait for the cute little netbooks with this snazzy new OS.
4I'd love to try it! Hopefully in one of those cute Sony W netbooks n_n.
5I am definitely interested to see what sorts of features it will have, and just how fast and lightweight it will be.
6Absolutely cannot wait to try this. I love the Google Chrome browser and think the OS will be awesome.
7soooo excited! I love the Chrome browser, it should be interesting. It would depend on what software would be compatible.
8Correction, Chrome OS wont compete with Linux, it IS linux. Linux is not an OS, its a Kernel, and Chrome OS will use the Linux Kernel
9If Chrome is focusing on the netbook market, then I don't really see how it would be competing with OS X. Unless Apple DOES decide to get into that market, Chrome would just have to worry about Microsoft and other Linux distributions.
That said, while I love my macs, I also use a dell laptop. I wouldn't mind loading Chrome on it to try it out, or even getting a netbook with Chrome pre-installed.
10I have a Dell netbook, which I love...and I definitely plan on using this when it comes out. I do think it's just glorified linux for now, but we'll see.
11I'll play around with it too, but probably won't consider it unless I get a netbook.
12I have a Macbook Air, which is ferrari of portable laptops. So, I have no use for this. But, Google has a great track record so far with app development. I'd love to see where they go with this.
Windows 7 is also supposed to be scalable for portable devices, so these two will compete with one another. I'm all for anything to break Windows market share.
