You already know that I'm a big fan of Virgin America's in-flight entertainment system, and have been known to tune in to JetBlue's DirectTV programming a time or two. But for a lot of you, an airline's in-flight goodies may not be a reason to book a seat.
On a recent flight to LA, I noticed how few people actually use their seat-back TV sets to watch the tube, a movie, or play games, instead choosing to sleep or use their own gadgets to keep them busy.
I found a very handy chart on one of my favorite travel sites the other day that lists how airlines stack up against one another when it comes to entertaining their passengers. I was pretty happy with the results: most airlines are now offering some sort of in-flight WiFi, as well as music and movies via personal viewing sets on the seat backs. So what gives? Are you totally into your favorite airline's in-flight entertainment, or do you completely tune out when flying?

Depends on the length of the flight, but overall I'd say that I use it almost every time it is available. I often use my gadgets while I'm waiting at the airport, so to save battery the in-flight entertainment sets work just fine, the game and movie selection is usually diverse enough to find something for everyone, but I still use my iPod for music.
1Definitely. The shortest flight I usually take is 9 hours so you can bet I'll be watching some movies and taking the occasional quiz! I love those games ...
2I agree that it depends on the length. But if it's a seat back, I'll almost definitely use it.
3I used it the way I use tv at home, I watched it while I ate. Otherwise I just listened to my ipod and slept.
However, now that I own an iphone and it only has 12 hours of battery life, I will probably be more apt to use the in-flight entertainment in the future or remember to bring my nano (which is much less of a battery suck).
4i never used to watch the movie when it was a big shared screen, but i usually use the seatback tvs. even if i'm playing with my blackberry or computer, i keep the live map on.
5No way. I made a habit of stopping watching all television years ago, and it's been good for me. And the kinds of movies on these flights tend to be censored/family films. I'd a lot rather play my PSP, on work on my Macbook.
6JetBlue is always the best for such things!
7i try to avoid traveling places JetBlue doesn't fly (haha, only half kidding..) and this is one of my reasons.
8Virgin Atlantic to Australia (whom I fly all the time now to get back home) are awesome, have the best screens and a great variety of media to choose from on their flights!! I LOVE it! You can even charge up via USB
