A friend of mine recently upgraded from a BlackBerry Pearl to a BlackBerry Curve and sent me an "OMG! I can't believe it!" email after playing with the Curve 8900's camera. There's no denying the appeal of the tiny Pearl — not only is it now discounted with many carriers, but it's also functional, reliable, and has some great features. But its 1.3MP (or 2MP) camera doesn't hold a candle to the Curve's 3.2 MP shooter. The megapixel difference makes this like comparing apples to oranges, but boy, what a difference those pixels make. 
With the popularity of mobile uploads on sites like Facebook, applications like twitpic, fancy iPhone camera apps and the ability to mobile blog, I worry the stakes and expectations for photos taken on cell phones are teetering on too high. Do you care? Or are cell phone pics just about instant gratification and capturing ridiculous moments?

I actually really do, it's one of my main reasons for wanting to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS.
1Yes i do. It's the main reason why I bought my Samsung Omnia. It's has a 5.0MP camera w. flash. I don't even own a point-n-shot.
2Nope. I rarely take pictures on my phone, and if I do, I don't really care that much about the quality. As long as I can tell what's going on in the picture, I'm happy.
3while it isnt the only reason for picking a phone, it totally matters! ive seen some decent pictures taken with camera phones that had lower megapixels tho, so i always test it out before relying on the numbers alone. i so wanted the omnia, but i didnt like some other things about it so i ended up with the blackberry bold. best phone ever! well that ive had anyway lol sure you may just want to catch random ridiculous moments, but wouldnt you want them to look good also?
4I do! I got the new palm pre, and my husband swapped his blackberry bold for my blackberry 8900, mainly for the awesome camera!! The pre's camera is no where near as good at the 8900, so we've made sure we've kept the 8900 in the family
5absolutely. i don't always remember my camera yet i always have my phone on me.
i have the iphone 3g and the camera is a real disappointment. my next phone will have to have at least 3.2mp.

i don't carry my camera around with me, so most of my candid photos come from my phone. (features like photo light/flash and macro mode are huge bonuses!) low quality? that's a dealbreaker, ladies.
8I haven't been using my camera as much since i got my curve 8900! It takes very good pictures!
9I don't really care about the camera on my phone. I have a phone to make phonecalls...and my small digital camera for fun trips, and my larger digital SLR for when I'm feeling extra artsy. I don't think I'm a camera snob, though...I still have a lot to learn before I'm actually good at photography. But I just want the right tools to further my hobby.
10Not really. I mean, digital cams are so small nowadays, I usually carry mine around everywhere.
11It's really important to me! Ever since I got my 3gs, I've been taking a lot more pictures. I really hope that the quality of them continues to improve to the point that I'll have something that can take high resolution photos all the time.

12I used to, when I still don't have my digicam. Nowadays, I couldn't care less, haha!
13I used to think that a cell phone camera was just for silly stuff. Then a friend went into labor 3 months before her due date and all her hubby had on him was his iPhone. Suddenly, the camera on the phone didn't seem so unimportant to me anymore. It's not my sole decision maker in buying a phone (obviously, since I have an iPhone 3g with only 2 MP), but it's definitely one of the things I consider now.
14Right now, it's not that important to me because I carry my point-and-shoot with me...and my phone and camera are two separate things for me. Though, I do admit that it would be more convenient to have a good quality camera within my phone, which is why I'm considering the Samsung Memoir...but still thinking about it.
15While MP's have very little to do with the quality of the pictures, the pictures taken with the blackberry (whichever one takes the good pics) are impressive; it obviously has a lot going on in there other than MP's.
I do care about the quality of photos my camera takes. I want them to look nice enough to share--and I have high standards. While I realize it will never replace a $1900 camera & lenses, I also don't want to lug a $1900 camera around on errands *just in case* I see something I want to capture.
It's not the most important feature of a phone, however. I wouldn't purchase a phone simply because it has a decent point-and-shoot built in.
16The blackberry bold that I have takes pretty good pix. Until i try to use the zoom. Then it goes to poop. But I always have my BB with me and I take pix of almost everything.
