My 30 Day EA Sports Active challenge continues, and for those of you who left comments and feedback about your own experience with the challenge, I must say, I am already feeling many of the same things!
In the beginning, I was really skeptical that this game could actually get me sweating and burn calories, but as each workout ups the calorie-burning level, you are guaranteed to be sweating within the first 10 minutes. And although this game isn't full of a ton of cardio (there are some running exercises which incorporate knee-ups and kick-ups), you'd be surprised how many calories you burn while working your muscle groups (those jumps in the inline skating exercise kill!). EA Sports Active really increases your strength and helps you build muscle — something I failed to include in my previous trips to the gym.
To keep reading about my experience this past week, just read more.
This week was all about learning. Learning that I need to invest in a different resistance band for the exercises (the one provided is too weak for me so I don't get much resistance); learning to go with the pace of the instructor or else the Wiimote becomes unresponsive; and learning to breeze through instructional videos to shorten workout times. Have you learned any other tips or tricks?
Be sure to see how the Green Pixels crew are doing in the challenge as well!

I'm on my last week of the 30 day challenge (5 lbs lost so far!) and my biggest pieces of advice are these: 1) Keep the remotes just where they tell you to have them. If you're supposed to have them pointing down and you don't, the rep won't register and you'll get some patronizing little corrective instruction; 2) On fast kick-backs, I went two weeks giving myself a heart attack while my avatar kept going slow-slow-slow. If you pick up your knees, land primarily on the balls of your feet, and make it a half-kick-back, boom! you're off and running; and most importantly 3) if the trainer's default incessant praise is way too perky and annoying for you (as it was for me), you can turn it off by going to the audio settings. The challenge has been a true kick-in-the-ass in every way possible, and while I can't say I love it, I do appreciate it.
1GeekSugar, can you tell us if this builds on the Wii Fit experience? I was really disappointed with that. I'm already in good shape, and basically want a good, solid resistance workout for when I get home after the gym closes.
I think the problem with Wii fit was the exercises were great, but the presentation was too slow and concentrated on balance to ever get intense. I just got so sick of hearing the instructor say the same phrases that I couldn't enjoy the workout.
Thanks for the feedback!

I've found Active to be far quicker than Wii Fit. Not poundingly fast but, there's a flow. I'm never sitting at a menu waiting for an exercise. If there's any waiting at all it's because I'm wore out and propping myself up waiting to hit the A button.
Basically, that's it. First time video instruction, exercise, A button, exercise, A button. At any point if you've forgotten how to do an exercise (day one and day two have been very different) you can review the instructional videos.
Never, though have I felt I was waiting around to get back to the workout. More often the workout has been waiting for me.
3The solo workouts (not part of the 30 day challenge) are really great as well. I was looking for something to do besides running and this program can be really hard at times.
You really do have to have the remotes pointed exactly like the instructor and I recommend getting a higher resistance band for people who this the just a supplement workout.
4I had the same issues. If I don't point the remotes up or down I'm standing there for like 2 minutes while the screen reads: stand still and point remote facing screen. :\ And I had the same issue with the fast kick backs I was killing myself doing it & it kept saying too slow but I was huffing and puffing trying to make it say Perfect.
Also, I used my Polar heart rate watch while I was doing one of the workouts and on the daily calorie rate it said something like 200 calories burned BUT on my heart rate watch it said I had burned like 450 calories. I wish they could have the watch sync to the game somehow in the future.
