On Friday night at 9 p.m. PST, Facebook users across the world were able to select their very own personal Facebook username URL. As soon as the floodgates opened, hundreds of thousands of Facebook users rushed to the social networking site to secure their name. Now you already know I had my reservations about the entire thing, but after being out with friends on Friday who actually hurried home to grab their name before anyone else, I couldn't help but think I should try to get my name too.

The outcome? Let's just say after some dinner and drinks, the last remaining friends and I got on our laptops at my place (by that time it was midnight PST) to see what was left for the taking. Sadly, my three hour procrastination proved to be detrimental in acquiring my preferred Facebook URL. But luckily for the folks with me — who were fortunate to be bestowed very unique names by their parents — got to enjoy their Friday night, and obtain the Facebook name of their dreams. Did you get the name you wanted? And if you still haven't selected one you can go here to see if your preferred name is still available.

Sure did. Apparently there aren't many people in the world with my name.
I did! I live in Hawaii so it was only 6pm here, so I got to nab it before I went out
yes! I got my firstname, just by itself.
I have a very very very common first and last name, so I never expected to try and get my first and last name, but I was able to get the variation I wanted
yeah I got mine. But then I realised I could have just had my first name. Which is still available. I am annoyed I didn't realise this earlier. What happens when (if!!) I get married , what will FB do then?
I got the name I wanted. I wasn't concerned though bc I've used the same name on gmail, twitter, flickr etc and never had a problem getting it.
segat1 i realized the same thing when i secured my username (chose my first & last), i should have gone with my first and second name...
I didn't bother, and if I do decide to get one, I'm sure I'll find some combination of my name and some numbers or something. Anyway, I'm in high school and I know several people whose usernames don't even use their names.
i chose my first and middle name. I thought of putting like my screen name but thought it was too dumb and I might not like later.
Were all first names already reserved? I got my first and last name for professional reasons, but was bummed that my first name was already unavailable at 12:01a. I just figured that all first names were already reserved for more important people than myself
originally i thought this whole scheme was about assigning a screen name to your profile ... like my current screen name ... which freaked me out because i don't want someone to search "bengalspice" and find my personal facebook.
but then i saw that i could use my real name ... which is less freaky.
Facebook sucks. I cant even sign up. I doesnt like my email address. This social networking crap is way over rated. Cant wait until people figure out that telling the world what they're up to, at every instant possible, is a waste of their time.
I absolutely did not want my full name in my profile URL, so I got my favorite username instead. I had wanted my first name, but I think it was reserved ahead of time.
I got mine. However, are you really sure you meant PST, and not PDT? There's a difference - a big and important one.
I didn't even try just my first name, I just went straight for my first&middle, just like my gmail address. I thought for a second about using 'bethinabox', but decided against it, and I'm happy I did.
I did. I waited until noon the next day and my first and last name was still available, so I did that. I didn't even think of the option of just having my first name...
I go by my first, maiden, and married last names, which I got. It's long, but I like it.
I got my first name and last initial, which is what I wanted. I knew beforehand that my first name was already taken by a Facebook employee.
first and middle initials, last name here. I like it because it looks like my last name with my title
i got my username that i wanted. but my username is not an average joe one so i wasnt too worried.
I got the one I wanted, which is the same as my gmail account.
I simply used my name...i still would like people to find me on facebook so why go crazy with it!?
i really wanted to be able to just use my first name, but i had to use my first and last name instead.
my sister got to use only her first name.
we didn't check until sunday though, so i guess we're pretty lucky.
I totally did! I'm really surprised, because I have what I like to call an "example name". You know, like when you're ordering from fundraisers, and they're showing you how to order, and there's "Suzy Jones"? Mine is kind of close to that, but I got my full name, first and last! The best part? I JUST checked its availability. And I just signed up for it. Pretty neat!
clearly no one else has my name combo which is great. i've always loved that i'm unique.
i did first and last... but i, too, am wondering about after marriage/name changes... facebook should have thought this through.. (my first name was pre-reserved i think)
I nabbed my username. I didn't want to use a first name/last name thing, so yeah.
Ah, I got mine, first and last name. I totally didn't think about it if I got married.. Meh! Long way away for me, anyways!!
Used 1 of my college username, it was great! Got in rite at the dot of midnight EST.
What is the actual point of the facebook username????
Karan Zoo, I was just about to ask the same question. I am curious as to why people need this username function/feature.
* Karen (sorry.)
I easily could've but I haven't pursued the whole username thing.... I just don't see the appeal....or the point. I don't need more people to find me easier.... ugh.
