Retweeting, or copying a tweet from someone and sharing it with your followers, is a major ego booster for the originator (and central to the whole viral content sharing power of Twitter). But, you must do it on the up and up with the "RT" and not just take inspiration from someone else's isms.
A friend recently admitted she essentially tries to one-up the Facebook status updates from the many bright minds on her friend's list, which often means borrowing their original pun, joke or idea and playing it off as her own. Have you ever practiced update embezzlement?

sorta related - my housemate stole the witty title of my facebook album, derived from one of my fav songs... i've never been so annoyed! be original! gosh!
1I try very hard to post only original content or things I have first hand knowledge of. I recently did a blog post on mac keyboard shortcuts and while I could google and find a ton of them I'm only posting ones I use. When I tweet it is on a mac thing I've stumbled across (most likely that day) or if I see another great mac tip I will RT or in Tweetie's case I'll do a Via.
2i RT like a maniac, but i ALWAYS RT @them ..TweetDeck makes that easy
3I never have...or maybe once, wayyy before Twitter became mainstream and I had no clue what the etiquette was or what "RT" meant.
4No; not that I know of anyway...
I just post what I find interesting/like, never
out to "steal" a persons idea or line (which is cheap.) If I find something I like (let it be a quote, picture, etc...) I always give credit to the originator.
5i was going to say that this sounds ridiculous but then I read MelissaJune's comment and realized that my roomate stole one of my favorite sayings for her fbook photo album and I thought that was strange/annoying.
However, people steal funny lines and jokes from each other all the time and in 'real life' there's no way to give someone credit.
6No, not that I can think of! Definitely not intentionally. I am just learning the etiquette & about RT.
7"update embezzlement"? seriously? twigarism?
i don't do it but several times my friends have re-posted or paraphrased what i posted. i actually was very "flattered". i think it's all about attitude. relax people, it's not as if it's copyrighted or something.
if it is, then fine. make a big deal.
8Definitely not! How sad.
