I may have breathed an audible sigh of relief when I heard that Google was launching Google Profiles, a hub for all your social networks.
Over the years, I've signed up for about 800 social networks (a rough estimate), have only consciously deleted one profile, and am only using an amount I can count on my hands at any given moment.
I'd love to claim that the high number of networks I belong to is purely an occupational hazard, but I tend to get excited about new networks regardless — there's always some cool new angle. But yes, I do have that worlds colliding fear, and yes, I definitely need to delete some more profiles!
Honestly, I'm too scared to count up the networks I'm on, so you tell me instead — how many social networks do you belong to?

I've limited myself so that I actually keep up with them... facebook and LinkedIn. After reading this article, I checked up on the Google Profiles site, as I'm a big fan of Google's products (Gmail, Calendar, iGoogle). I want to set up a profile, but then I'm very protective of my identity... I don't want too much about me out there on the web (which means it can never be deleted!) and I tend to find safety with an alias. I'm not sure how to balance social networking with privacy.
1Um...when you mean "belong to", do you mean active in or just have accounts with?
Because if we're just going with the ones I'm active in...umm...I think about 5 or 7?
If we add the ones I have accounts with...well I've lost count then, it's at least 10. At least this is reminding me that maybe I should go delete the ones I don't use!
2I "belong" to about seven, but I only actively use Facebook and Twitter. I never filled out the profile on some of them.
3two. myspace and facebook:) those are the only two that all my friends are part of so i don't use the others where i don't know anyone.

6gosh, so many. I met my boyfriend on Friendster 5 years ago and way back, I had a livejournal...I'm sure it's still there. And Makeout Club, which was for indie types before all of this.
I use facebook, twitter and LinkedIn a lot. There are a lot of online aps like Flickr which have social networking aspects to them, but I don't consider them a full on social networking site. In this bucket, I'm on last.fm, flickr, upcoming, meetup, and a bunch that I can't remember.
7wow geeksugar - 800? i didn't know there were that many! i'm on twitter, facebook, myspace, the sugar network, bebo...and i don't use 2 of them. i wouldn't have time to keep track of any more!

9Twitter, onsugar, lunch, linkedin and facebook are my active accounts. I did use myspace and friendster at one point as well.

Less than 50 but over 25 social networks due to work & various social advocacy reasons. Personally only a few. Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo, MSN, Wordpress, Vox, OnSugar(which is here), Friendfeed, Flickr, Linkln, OpenID, & golly even though they r time consuming, u know tips & tricks of privacy settings after a while.

15Just two, Teamsugar and Facebook. I don't really see any point in getting more, since all my friends use Facebook and my only goal when joining was to connect with my friends more. It's done its job, so why join more?
16Way too many. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, LiveJournal, and MySpace are the main ones, but I recently went in and updated my profile on classmates.com, and realized I definitely have joined more initially only to discover it wasn't as awesome as it originally seemed. I am also a part of several inCircles with various organizations... basically they try to have their own exclusive facebook but it's never quite as good! And who wants to be exclusive?

193...myspace, facebook and twitter. I started on myspace...but most of my friends has hoped over to facebook, I hardly use myspace anymore...I only keep it around cause there are a few friends I wanna keep in contact with who refuse to join FB. Twitter is something new I just started on..its pretty fun
