That fallout was quick: Billboard reports that due to last week's raise in iTunes prices for popular songs to $1.29, many of those popular songs have dropped in download ranking (that's one way to get them back down to 99 cents!).
Personally, the only time I download single songs from iTunes is for popular songs (you know, the ones you can't get out of your head and need to have now), but I'm annoyed by the price jump, so I may go somewhere else. Considering the majority of you said you bought music online the last time I asked, tell me, where do you go for your paid music downloads?

eMusic!
1lol good joke
paying for music.

3It used to be Amazon but with their new homophobic policy, I'm not buying from them ever again. Until they change things back to the way they are. See the results for homosexuality: http://tinyurl.com/d445ay Disgusting!
4I meant 'to the way things were'
5*Paying* for music? People do that?!
6www.soundsbox.com - 14 cents a song and additional discounts if you buy in bulk, no DRM, pretty good selection, I've been totally pleased.
7gomusic.ru (it's all of mp3 reincarnated). If I can't find it there, then Amazon.
8I check between Amazon and iTunes and whoever has it cheaper is where I'll buy it from.
But if it's the same price I usually buy from iTunes, for no real reason.
9I second the gomusic.ru shout-out.
10Well I did buy from amazon but they went up in price too, I would suggest Shockhound.com!!!
11Walmart mp3. Crazy as it sounds, tons of songs for 89 cents, albums for 10 bucks. Woot.
12I only purchase through iTunes as I'm too lazy to shop around.
13Zune Marketplace!
14Since I am swedish I will tell you to use

If you want to use it for free you will have to get invited first.

15I still prefer to buy CDs and import them, but in the rare cases when I buy digital music, I go with iTunes. But as a Norwegian, I don't really have a lot of alternatives. A lot of the sites won't sell to people outside of the US, which sucks. Even iTunes is way worse for us, as we can't buy TV shows (a rights issue, I presume) and the music catalogue is smaller.
16I prefer to use unlimited subscription services. I was using Yahoo Unlimited until they discontinued the service. Now I'm using Napster, and I'm pretty happy. One flat rate for almost all the music you can download. And their selection is pretty good. I like a lot of underground & indie musicians, and I can still almost always get what I'm looking for.
17I usually buy from iTunes just because it's convenient. However, I usually buy CDs just because I like having a hard copy.
18On a less related note, I own that ipod that's shown in the picture.
None. I will not pay for low-quality digitally compressed music. I still buy physical music media (vinyl or disc) and convert it to portable format for myself. I'll d/l a (free) digital copy of something to sample it, but I won't pay more money for less product -- makes no sense to me.
19i use zune marketplace which is cool because i have a zune and an xbox 360 account.
20I just descovered mp3panda last night albums for 1.98. Can't beat that
21bellieve it or not, i've been a napster subscriber for 3+yrs now and for less than $15 a month to be able to download almost any of the songs on there onto any of my 3 portable devices & up to 3 computers...its a deal. some tracks you need to pay for, and you know there are no metallica tunes on napster (LOL) - but still bang for the buck.
22@cal1 - FYI, Amazon is saying that the cataloging glitch is an accident, and it will be fixed: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/04/14/amazon_book_delisting/print.html (sorry for the somewhat off-topic post)
23@z0rkzer0 Originally they were saying that it was their policy to remove "overtly adult novels" from sales rankings. Check this out: http://jezebel.com/5209088/why-is-amazon-removing-the-sales-rankings-fro...
Sorry for off topic, buuut....yeah, Amazon is trying to cover their arse with that "glitch" BS. They screwed up and they know it. They are SCRAMBLING to try to keep from getting their butts handed to them by the GLBT & allied consumer base. Considering GLBT folks have a whole lot of buying power, and then throw in their supporters buying power....Amazon's butt is on fire and they're trying to figure out how to put it out.
24iTunes
25iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, or Amie St. (lots of indie artists ---cheap prices!)
26AmieStreet. It's an independent music website, and all of the songs are uploaded by anyone. The prices never exceed $0.98 per song and they're DRM-free as well. Made famous by Ashley Alexandra Dupre, Eliot Spitzer's very own call girl.
27I actually buy from both iTunes and Amazon, although iTunes still gets most of my $$.
28I mostly purchase from iTunes & randomly from Amazon.
