Even though 3D is popping up everywhere — from the Jonas Brothers to Monsters vs. Aliens — you have to think: is 3D really that cool? An article from Slate conjectures that it's actually not — even reducing it simply to "It hurts your eyes. Always has, always will."
Thinking about it, it's not the same kind of technological advancement on par with high definition. It's kinda fun, but I also remember how cool I thought the 3D Captain Eo was at Disneyland in the '80s. . . and it's like, we're still jazzed on the same thing?
What do you think? Should filmmakers keep integrating it into movies and "experiences," or is it a novelty that's coming to an end?

I've never been into 3d movies because they aren't worth the extra money. At our local theatre it's $15 a person.
1It's also really annoying that they only offer movies in 3D now and you don't get a choice to go to a non-3d showing. Some people just aren't into it or it makes them feel sick.
2Never really been into it either, amloveaffair.. the special glasses give me a headache.
3It was never cool
43D is super duper cool and is not just about movies. It will transform gaming and the Internet. It's not all about glasses (doh) you can get a 3D experience online without any of that.
5I thought Shrek 4D over at Universal Studios was fun. Other than that, no. It gives me a headache.
6Honestly I always squint trying to get the 3-D experience but maybe with Monsters VS Aliens and a pair of contacts I should be okay.
7I never got into the whole 3D thing.
8tickets are way more expensive. I'd rather just watch it 2D save the money and buy some popcorn or something.
9With the new digital 3D it makes it hard for little theaters to stay in business. Where I work we're still using 35mm film and projectors from the 1950's. In order to even show those new 3D movies, we would have to get all new projectors at 100 thousand a pop!
10Sometimes it makes sense. Coraline 3D was AMAZING and more like a dark ride at Disneyland than just a movie.
11I've never seen 3D tickets more expensive than non 3d movie tickets... maybe because I lived in NJ and now I'm in FL... do you people live in LA or something? IMAX tickets are $16 here though... either way, i love 3D even though i already wear glasses, which kinda makes the viewing experience hard and makes me go cross eyed a bit... they need to start making '4D' movies like the attractions @ the theme parks... they're running out of money thanks to this lovely invention called the Internet... ruining everything, yet so addicting.
12The world is 3D. Do you walk around all day with one eye closed so that you can see things in 2D?
133D movies are great. And soon, 3D sports on TV, will be amazing.
