If you have WiFi and live in an apartment building, you may notice there are lots of other WiFi networks visible on your network list (and naturally, your neighbors can probably see yours as well). Although this fact alone isn't dangerous, it can be if your own network isn't password protected. Leaving your wireless signal open could put you at risk of intruders illegally downloading on your bandwidth, stealing personal info, and even gaining access to your personal documents on your home computers and laptops.
So when setting up wireless Internet at home, make sure you set a password that is long and hard to remember so your home network isn't hacked. Read through your wireless routers instructions carefully for step-by-step instructions. And, hey, Mac users — just because your computer is at a lower risk for viruses, that doesn't mean your wireless can't be hacked as easily as everyone elses, especially if you're using a lame password!

3@amloveaffair I do the same thing, and ours has been down a lot lately so I'm really glad to have neighbors who don't use passwords, haha.
4I generally don't filter mine, just use DHCP filtering - since only like seven things end up on it at most, it works pretty well and keeps most everyone out.
5My mom and I have a passworded wifi...I didn't know so much info was opened to others that way though....I just didn't want my neighbors usin' my internet for free

6i was using my neighbors wifi when i first moved in because i was being cheap. but the delay for downloads and the weak signal was too much so i broke down and went legit. i did not return the favor and have my stuff on lock. haha
7Same way here. We had a neighbor who had a good linksys connection for a while but we got annoyed and I bought a router and wifi. Its great and now reading this post I want to change the password i have on our account.
8Unfortunately, in our building there is only one or two unlocked wi-fi and most of the wi-fi's are locked tight. My wi-fi is locked and thus far even I have to read the manual to hack it myself a few times over again before I get my own access! (Btw, I have to pay mine.)

11I can't seem to make a password for my wifi in my house idk what to do and I tryed creating one but I can't and I know my neaighbors use it and it irrattes me because they are not paying for it and it just makes my connection slower.. And help I have verizon wifi router and verizon internet (wifi)
