Yesterday's stealthy new iPod Shuffle announcement may have come as a small surprise, but it wasn't unwelcome; it seemed time to update the lightest, cheapest iPod.
While there are definite pluses (the low price, the 4GB storage, the new voice-over technology) you guys, I, and the Internet in general are in an uproar over the controls being in the earbuds.
Break 'em or lose 'em, you've got to get a new set of the earbuds if you want to use the iPod. Third party headphones? Sure, you can use them, but not without an adapter — which Apple will make, but that's another thing to buy.
I'm torn; aesthetically, the device does look very nice blank, but it seems a little irritating to have to either use (or harder for me, not lose) the earbuds the Shuffle comes with, or pay extra for something different.
What do you think?

I'm sorry, but that to me is so Apple.
1The earbuds that come with it hurt my ears after a while and I can't work out with them, as they fall out of my tiny ears! This is a horrible decision on their part. I love my little green clip shuffle that is full of workout music...glad I got it before this change.
2I think they should do another bundle that is the shuffle with the control adapter with no earbuds. Everyone would win.
3I agree with Macgirl. That would be a really good solution.
4omg.. depending on what computer you sync you ipod to, the voice over changes voices. The pc voice over is more robotic.... how childish of them.
5Those earbuds are horrible! Why would I want to use the provided set instead of my own comfortable ones. It's a total rip off.
6Woohoo! I looked here yesterday to see if there was a post about this. I think it looks awesome.
For me, I pretty much only use the shuffle I have right now for working out, so it's great having the controls in the ear buds, because I'm not going to look down at it anyways.
Meah, this one still does have a clip, it's just not shown in the photo.
pinkmystic, I don't think one is more robotic, it's just one is a man and one is a woman. Though I don't see what the point of that is.
Macgirl, I totally agree they should give you the option of the adapter OR the headphones. I have my own headphones that I prefer normally to the earbuds (though I have gotten used to the ear buds more since the headphones I like don't fit into my 1st gen iPhone.)
And sy, I can't tell if you mean that in a good way or a bad way!
7I don't like it. I'm picky about my ear buds and usually can't wear ones like in the picture. I have to use the ones that 'fit' in my ear so I can hear. With these ear buds, I can't switch them out. Sorry Apple, but I won't be buying the new Shuffle.
8Personally, I have really small ears, and those one size fits all earphpones don't fit me. I always but expensive earphones that have the different sized plugs.
9I hate the earbuds that come with iPods, they don't fit right and they just seem cheap! I always lose or break headphones, too, so having all the controls in the headphones would definitely not work for me. This seems to be a money-grubbing Apple move. I mean really, an ipod that doesn't even work without their brand of headphones? It's totally not about "looking sleek."
10I don't like it because the Apple ear buds are too large for me, I need smaller ones.
11Geek- How much will it cost to purchase a replacement set of earbuds if you lose/break these with the controls?
12I dont like it, because i use my bose earbuns, and then how am i gonna change song??
13I don't because what if I want to use my own earphones. Apple earphones suck.
14As someone who habitually loses or breaks her headphones and has to purchase new ones in all sorts of airport kiosks, I think this is a terrible idea.
