Honestly, I kind of hate the way game companies categorize women. Take this new lilac-colored PSP bundle for example. According to Sony, it's being released later this year "as part of a new focus on expanding the PSP market to female gamers" and is coming packed with the latest installment of the Hannah Montana PSP game. Okay, so what's so wrong with Hannah Montana? Nothing really, except for the fact that Sony is also releasing Assassins Creed as a bundle, as well as bringing Little Big Planet to the PSP later this year. So why the Hannah Montana bundle? Oh right, cause women must not like to play the same games guys do.

For me to drop my $200 dollars on a game bundle, you better be packing my PSP with LBP, or even the recently announced Rock Band Unplugged. I know gamers are still going to pick up this bundle just for the console color, but come summertime, I'm betting on seeing quite a few copies of Hannah Montana for the PSP in the bargain bin, causing "women" to spend more money on a game they'll actually play. Am I the only one frustrated with this bundle announcement?

You know, because everyone over the age of 14 loves Hannah Montana.
1that ticks me off. number one, I'd much rather have a red or black gaming system than a purple of pink one. And number two, Hannah Montana? really. wow. lets bundle it with a puppy simulator too. I hate when gaming companies assume that all girl gamers are 14 and only want to play dress up with their game console.
2"I'd much rather have a red or black gaming system than a purple of pink one. " Haha I bought a DS lite a few weeks ago in "Cobolt" not pink or white.
3I think the new PSP is pretty but Hannah Montana?
4Yeah can it not be bundled with LBP at least?
Hannah Montana is for 8 year olds!
I love my Pink DS, but I would not buy this PSP if it comes with Hannah Montana :/
5I agree this is REALLY lame, and I fear it won't be ending anytime soon.
It reminds me of how I was little I always wanted the "boy" happy meal because their toys were a lot better than the ones in the "girl" happy meals.
6Well the good news is that they still make non-gender-specific-colored games & accessories for gals like us. Although I've been planning on blinging out my red DS with some Swarovski crystals...
I agree with Leila that unfortunately this trend will continue... especially since there is a HUGE market out there for girly games & accessories.
But what I'm happy about is that there are games out there for girls; it's not just a boy thing anymore! Isn't it rad that an 8-year-old now has the choice of a Hannah Montana bundle? I can tell you that certainly wasn't the case when Game Boys came out when I was a kiddo.
7Actually, I like the lilac, but I like purple. But I do agree that it is silly to feel the need to market to women this way. Heck, I bought my DS in that lovely blue color and not the girly rose color. I know game companies are trying to market to women and that's great. I'm glad they are recognizing that women are gamers too, but making a lilac colored PSP for women? That's just goofy.
And I wish Hannah Montana would just go away.
8All those Teenie Tweenies who get their Mommies and Daddies to buy the bundle because of the Hannah Montana game are going to be sad little campers once they find out that it's pretty much the only 'girly' game of its kind on the PSP.
9That lilac kind of makes me want to vomit.
The Sony PSP group needs to fire their marketing people - because obviously they don't get it. Women aren't more likely to buy a product if it's made more "feminine" looking. That's like the Guitar Hero wireless consoles by Aly & AJ - PINK skulls and khaki on baby pink?! Gross. Like I would pay money for that.
I'd rather see just a wider range of colors - red, yellow, orange, green. If you're going to go with purple, at least go with a strong deep metallic kind instead of this lavender pastel crap!
10Ooh, i want. I'll throw away hannah montana, however. Or burn it in a ritualistic cleansing ceremony. Whichever fits.
Will Little Big Planet be released as a bundle or seperately?? I want this game so bad!
11I'd love the lavendar color but HM is not even remotely a possibility for me. I can't stand her. She's a horrible role model and just incredibly annoying.
I got my DS as a mothers day gift last year - cobalt blue. LOVE it.
12I have to admit I'm a total "girly" girl--I have the pink DS and I was drooling when I saw the lilac PSP but yeah it ticks me off when companies assume they have to make it pastel in order to sell it to women. As for HM, not going to lie I do have it for DS (and I'm 24) but seriously? A bundle? Give us credit Sony! Women like gore and fighting as much as a man. I never wanted a PSP until I saw this one....and the fact that LBP will be released just assured a purchase from me.
13blah, it's cute, sexism will always exist, and if i had a disposable income, you betcha i would buy this and throw away the HM game.
14This is ridiculous, I would prefer a black or red one any day. And NEW'S FLASH EVERY 14 YEAR OLD GIRL HATES HANNAH MONTANA! Only 7 and 8 year old's like her poor excuse for a career. =D
15whoaaaaaaaaa that sucks. i love love looove the lilac color. almost enough to have me consider buying it. but i'm quite offended with the attached game choice. hannah montana is clearly for one certain age group, and even then those girls deserve better! they could have at least bundled it with Crisis Core... arghhhh...
16I am a serious gamer. 2 Ps3's, 2 Xbox 360's, 2 of most games that we own due to co-op gaming whether it be system link or over the interweb. I just finished playing Resistance 2 online with my husband and my brother where I am a medic and responsible for all my fellow teammates lives. THIS little lilac beauty made me drool a little. If I didn't already have a red PSP it would be mine. The Hanna Montana game that came with it would never be played. If it came with LBP though, I might have to sell my red one and get it. I don't need my games to be manly colored to prove myself. I think I actually like to go the girly route in a shock and awe routine. I am a tech in a mostly male field so I already stick out like a sore thumb, why not make it obvious.
17my ds is dark blue and black and i love it. but purple is my fav color (and green) and i would totally snatch this up. in fact, i was planning to get a psp this summer and i think this seals the deal. so that's a lilac psp and a red xbox. nice. haha
18This is one of those rare moments where I wish I was a guy - I would buy one of these in an instant if I weren't a girl, just because this whole promotion is so ridiculous & funny. "Lilac goes so well with my skin tone!"
19I brought a light blue DS, that came bundled with brain age. I like the color of this PSP. I was drooling over it myself, too bad I already own one. Though since HM is attached to it, I probably would feel foolish for buying one.
20f*ck U hannah montana is soooo awsome and better than ur faces !!!!!!!
21well to me i will give hannah montana to a yonger girl who loves hannah montana but i listen to hannah montana all the time
22damn im a dude and i think hannah montana is fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol btw im 15 too bad shes 16 too old for me lmao
23i love im so getting it!!!!!! yay! ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
24I think this is a great move from Sony. You don't have to be a 10 year old girl to want a Purple PSP. I've been waiting for a prettier color for a while. Red, Black and Blue are just too manly. There are women gamers too. That don't just play Mario or Wii. I don't mind that it's a Hannah Montana bundle. If it helps move more PSP systems and keeps PSP around that's all that matters. I can always continue to play my old games.
25Love Love Love the color it is so cute, I'm a 28yo gamer Female, been one since I was a wee child, and I love the color of consoles these days, pink, red, blue, now purple and cute accessories so pretty!
Hey I don't have to give up my pink to play with the boys, sides it's fun to see them squirm when beaten by a pink gameBoy! >;D
Games on the other hand like HannaMontana being bundled with this pretty PSP makes me want to puke, my 9yo daughter even said eeeww what a waist of a nice PSP.....I would have been alittle more inclined if it was Petz title even.... but Her? No f-ing way, they can have my monies when they get there heads on straight and Bundle with something playable. OMG if they did purple with LBP! >.<</p> 26

27I actually just bought this. I've wanted a psp for a while but never broke down to buy one until I seen this purple one. The bundling sucks- like everyone said- LBP would have been such a better title for this. I feel like Sony owes me a game because I had to pay more money for this bundle then went to s game store to trade the hannah montana game in- which is new and would cost $40 retail- only getting a few dollars(seriously like five) putting that towards GTA Vice City Stories. ANd even though this all makes me cringe, I was considering the white one when it was released until I seen that Star Wars decal on the back- wth? I dunno if they continued making them like that but who says all people would want that? So it's kinda the same here. Maybe Sony should do some group panels first or something before releasing stuff. Listen to the consumers.
28Hi, don't forget they is girl gamers out there who love Hannah montana and the colour lilac and pink. I bought it and love it, except the game gets really boring sometimes!
29hey does anyone know if theres a picture of "Hannah Montanna" or a signature on the back or anything? I hate Hannah but I do like this purple Business so let me know. If there is anything like that on the back I just wont bother
