In a recent article Forbes writer Daniel Lyons points out that there is no logical reason to spend $780 on the Prada phone by LG. A point I wholeheartedly agree with, except for the phone is so darn pretty. The thing is, and Lyons does acknowledge this, there is common sense and then there's fashion sense.
The Prada phone is approximately $200 more than the upcoming iPhone, but does tout the designer label and "oh, it's Prada" factor. Of course, most people expect the iPhone to deliver in terms of its touchscreen technology and the iPod bonus. For those of you who are still aching for the phone despite its price, there may be a few road blocks. Prada was taking pre-orders in its boutiques in New York and Los Angeles this spring, but the phones are now all sold out in the U.S. On top of that, you will need a SIM card from a European or Asian cellular carrier for the phone to work in the U.S., as no local networks recognize the phone.

Are those man hands in the picture?
It wouldn't be worth it to me. However if you have so much money that $780 is nothing to you, and you're a huge Prada fan and like the status that would be associated with owning such a piece then maybe it would be worth it.
no, i'm waiting for the iphone
If money wasn't an issue for me than sure but as of now there is no way I would ever shell out that much money for a cell phone when I am not even a big fan of talking over a cell phone. I would rather have the iphone anyway.
No, its not very pretty either
It's one thing to shell out the dough for the Prada label, but it seems like such a hassle if US cell companies aren't even compatible with the phone.
I've heard that this phone is actually going to be free with 2-year contract over in Europe. Lucky bastards.
not worth it. its not even that cute really, plus if its not compatible with US cell companies then its definitely not worth it.
HA HA -- Phil I was thinking the same thing! Those hands look pretty manly and old
As Justauser said - I got mine free! I was on pay as you go with a cute pink Motorola L7 but decided it was time to grow up and go on contract, so I was waiting for a nice phone - so now I've got the Prada phone! I love it. I think it's brilliant, but I would never pay more than £200 for a phone.
No way, it looks like my tv remote.
If I were spending that much, I'd get an iPhone.
there are better phones than iphone and prada phone out - both are sub standard
Hey. I have this phone. My dad got it for me from London 2 months ago. Anyway, I highly, highly don't recommend this phone. It's very clustered and extremely frustrating as everything is touch screen and doesn't come with a pen. The good thing is that it's very, very light. I'd choose a Blackberry any day over this phone.
No, unless you really like Prada. But it sounds like a hassle for American users.
Didn't Like it at all
So how does one go about getting a European SIM card? Did they tell the (assumingly NON-geeky) girls who preordered the phones that they'd need one?
i cant believe anyone would spend almost 800 bucks on a phone!!!! thats crazy! i could buy a decent cell, a camera and an mp3 for that!
I couldn't imagine paying that much for a phone.
As a Brit, UK phone companies are doing all sorts of deals with the Prada phone, so I got mine for free as long as I pay £30 a month for 18 months, with 300 free mins and 300 free texts. It's pretty cool as I didn't have the patience to wait/save for the iPhone - my wait for the Wii was long enough thanks!!
As for getting a UK sim card for US users, wouldnt' that cost shedloads of cash for a phone call?!
I'm in the UK and I've just found a free one of 18 months on £40 plan. Pretty std to me. What's the deal with the US system? Do you have to buy the phone outright before you start the contract or what?
save it for the bags!
Any real geek girl would know that you can still use the 1900 Mhz band with the phone, and you can use this phone on the AT&T and T-Mobile urban networks in the US. I use my Prada phone on the AT&T network.
I feel like Prada should just stick to what they do best...fashion...not....technology.
a friend of mine is waiting for hers to arrive - she was able to get it in a promotion deal where she lives so --- i told her to let me know how she likes it
It's not even attractive.
i think it's nice
Uh uh, it looks too awkward and I'd rather go spend the money on come Prada shoes or something if I was going to shell out that much.
it's probably a poice of crap phone anyway. seriously, why are her hands so big and manly??
ummm... is the iPhone worth it?
Is it really that darn pretty? I think it's ugly. Not worth it, I saw many better looking phones. And iPhone seems to have better features so... Nah.
$780?! jesus christ! on an o2 contract its £150 in the UK! thats about $300!
I'd prefer a prada over the iphone, which is blasphemy for a mac geek like me!
those are definitely man hands. that reminds me of that seinfeld episode.
too expensive
buy something thats functionnal at least
who cares if its from prada! IT"S UGLY!!!!!!
there's so much needed to have the device work in the US, i don't think it's worth it.
DUH!
How can anyone resist Prada x]
Lol jkjk
is it touchscreen?
im on a blackberry kick rite now. im not into touch screen. tis touch screen rite? its not my think.
Oh i want one♥
I love it.
The hand does look freakishly manly though...
way too expensive for me but than I am rarely if never swayed by designer names
I guess I just don't have the gene in me that cares about that stuff.
I go for the look and the price combined not what i think others will think if they know who made it.
I pined after the gold D&G razr for ages.... so I can pine after this one too!
oh, and i fully agree with the manhands comments. YIKES.
designer phones arent really worth it cuz when u buy do u think it will still be"in" after 2 or 3 years?
The only expericence I've ever had with an LG phone was not nice. It was the biggest POS phone I ever owned. The only kind I've ever managed to keep for more than a year is Motorola.
It's fine if you live over seas i don't see much use for it here in the u.s.a....... I have an iphone so maybe im Bias
ROFL!!! Phil I thought the same thing! And this phone is UGLY.
